One of thousands of German commentaries blasting the US
americanbychoice2

Posted on 04/10/2004 3:36:58 PM PDT by americanbychoice2

This appeared in the Bild, a widely read German paper. Sorry about the new thread, I made the mistake to post it in German first. I will Translate this Garbage for you

Gerhard Schroeder has very seldom been on the stage because of his visionary prowess. He has also not shown many signs of principles. Therefore we will never know whether his decision to be against the war in Iraq was only Campaign rhetoric or basic principle. However, we know now, he was right. Whoever believed in the US propaganda in spite of the fact that there were no WMD's knows now: All was wrong!

Whoever criticised the warners who prophesized the second coming of Vietnam, as cowards is just wrong.

Since Schroeder did not send German troops into Iraq because of the supposed War on terror, he did our country a favor. However he may be losing those benefits because of the daily problems concerning Unemployment, poor economy and reforms.

The triumphant domestic policies of the UNION ( opposition) needs to be examined to see if their close alliance to the American President was right. Angela Merkel is undoubtedly happy that she is on Vacation and doesn't have to answer questions regarding her relations to the United States.

I don't want to invite any misunderstanding: It is important for Germany to be friends with Americans, but especially because of that it would be correct for us not to be friends with George W. Bush.

I read this kind of crap in every paper every day. The arrogance is maddening. It almost seems like they want to deflect attention away from their bankrupt domestic situation. That's one of many reasons I am an "Americanbychoice"

You should have seen what the krauts were saying about us in 1942. Even so we bailed them out after the war.

Yeah, we've got to stop that. The same with the french. Good thing is, I think we've learned our lesson and won't do it again.

"I appreciate your sentiments. I agree with your analysis of the Springer empire."

Thank you :o)

In fact, reading *this* comment in the
Springer press is a kinda "Revolution".

"However, I have seen a gradual shift to left for over a year now. Lately a more subtle shift.
I go to Germany 4 times per year. The average German does have ab attitude of moral superiority and arrogance fueled by their media which is almost "Bible like"."

Ehem... concerning "arrogance", our fellow freeper
statements above ain`t bad, either...

But you are right.
My explaination is more or less simple,
using a bit psychology.
Beeing a german, you`ll know about the
deep national trauma, caused by our past.
Now, there is the chance to be John Wayne,
and, for the first time, NOT the Indian.
In other words, ppl love to be the good ones,
in their view. And this view is broadly
supported by the media, now even BILD...
You`ll know what I mean.

"Of course that's only my opinion, I could be wrong."

No, you aren`t...
Knowing Germany, but seeing it from a
distance gives one the ability to judge
on it with a certain objectivity, I guess.

Hun

I was born and raised in Germany. My Family, although very left, is still there. I also lived in Germany for 16 years as European Director for my American company. I see Germany from the outside as well as the inside. :)
It upsets me to no end to see that country destroyed by irresponsible politicians. Just a couple of points that are in my opinion underlying causes for the German future demise.

I have always maintained that the Wirtschaftswunder was the worst thing that could have happened to Germany who had never had any experience in dealing with prosperity. " It didn't come with Instructions"
Also they allowed "La Dolce Vita" to take over They simply became too lazy to breed.

"You need us way more than we need you."

Simple Question: Why?

"the only reason you guys maintain any kind of halfway cordial relations with us is because you don't want to lose the billions of American dollars poured into your economy by our military. If we pulled our bases out of Germany, your economy would implode"

Lol... Now, that`s a really good one :-)

Let`s play facts... 80.000 troops with some
50.000 relatives. That`s matching the population
of a normal middle-sized city, let`s say
Berkeley. Not to mention the fact that:
- The $ is constantly sinking, so the GIs aren`t
able to consume as much as before...
- Most bases are economical independent,
with own shops, etc.
- The conversion of former military bases
for civil use is *Big Business* here!
- Germany pays a part of the costs, see the
several NATO deployment treaties.

"Your country has repeatedly shown just how spineless it is, from your token force in Afghanistan who are not allowed to engage in combat"

Nonsense...
But tell me why Germany should support a nation
which is constantly insulting her?
WE have no reasons to stay in Afghanistan,
other than supporting you. I guess the families
of our fallen troops will thank you for your statement.

"to it's anti-american reelection platforms by it's leaders, to the Bush-as-Hitler advertisements hanging in your streets.....Germans accusing others of being Hitler....that is a laugh from a culture that killed 6 million jews."

Let`s say it like this:

You don`t make it very easy to be friends these
days.

And if you accuse our "culture" (and not a
criminal dictatorship) of killing 6 million
humans (not only jews), most Germans will
present you the "Native Indian" card.
That`s an endless game, and in times of
Faluja not a very wise argument.

Blame us for learning out of our history... that`s
an accusation I`ll gladly accept.

My mom is italian and my dad german. I know both countries very well and living in italy right now. My cousin moved to U.S. and created jobs there for americans in NJ area. I cried in vain, when i saw the terror attacks against WTC and freedom.

US-Administration lost all credibility and respect in Europe. Also in italy, despite that all major TV channels are in the hands of Berlusconi, Bush's fascist minion.

People are complaining here how U.S. deals with the problems of common Iraqis. TV shows reports, that it's not a minority of iraqis opposing foreign occupation, but the majority. It's very likely that Berlusconi will lose next election, simply because of the strong support he gave to Bush.

Knowing Germany and knowing BILD (a newspaper that is famous for her big headlines and boobs), this article means that Germany will never send soldiers to iraq. Even if the conservatives will win elections October 2004.

The economic value of the bases are also overestimated here in this message-board. 95% of germans simply don't care if U.S. army have bases or not. The remaining 5% are divided in people strongly opposing them and politicians favoring them.

We are not sending people to the ovens in Fallujah.

"And if you accuse our "culture" (and not a
criminal dictatorship)" Yeah, a criminal dictatorship supported by the people in Germany so they could overcome the "shame" brought to them by the surrender terms after the first world war. They chose having the trains run on time over freedom. Face it, the German people looked away as the jews were gassed.

We love our native Indians, they own all the good casinos now. The jews in Germany in France on the other hand are still exposed to terrible anti-semitism.

Re Iraq. What you don't seem to understand is that the USA was attacked and 3,000 Americans killed. After that attack our president said that we would wage war against terrorists and the nations that assist terrorists. In our view Iraq was such a nation so we conquered it.

We will conquer other nations too. But we will try to do again what we have always done to conquered nations. If we try to civilize them, and teach them the rule of law.

I am sorry Germany seems to be against us in this matter, but with or without Germany the USA will battle evil in this world even if we have to do it all by ourselves.

That`s the point... exactly.
We Euros supported you after 0911, without any
questions, and we still do.
But we differ on Iraq, because most ppl just
*cannot* see this link between 0911 & Iraq here.

Europe has been devastated twice in the 20th century,
and that`s still a trauma, deep in our souls.
After loosing millions of innocent ppl and having
sitting in air raid shelters in countless nights
during bomb raids, Euros doubt *every* reason
for a war, unless it`s obviously and clear.
And sorry, in our view, the reasons for this
war are more than doubtful.

In this discussion, it would be really helpful
if you don`t demand appreciation from *us* all
the time, but would try to do the same for us.

Happy Easter,
Hun

Thanks,

but posting links is no argument.

I could assail you with links about
Gen. Custer and the current war, so
what?

In our today`s reality, anti-semitism
is no topic, neither for us, nor for
the german or israeli jews.
The original poster of this thread
will confirm this, ask him.

I`m just fair and warning you not to use
the holocaust-blackjack all the time,
because we ALL, including nearly all
european nations, have "corpses under
the sofa", as we say here. This argument will
come *straight back* to you, in these days.

That`s NO excuse for what happened in our
name, but neither an excuse for your
own genocide.

Of course, there are few pictures to go along with the stories, so I can see why you are not interested.

I do not hold the sons accountable for the sins of their fathers.

Re Iraq, the entire middle east is full of terrorist and nations that one one way or another assist terror. Iraq is no better no worse, it is just a very bad neighborhood. From here in Texas, if looks like the entire middle east needs to be civilized and radical Islam tamed. That is going to be a very big job and is going to take a long time but that is the path that the United States is going down. I wish our president would be ore honest with the people of the USA and tell them that's what he has got in mind, but reading between the lines it is pretty easy to see.

And who benefits most from this? Europe! Radical Islam has Europe in it's sights just Look at the Balkans. Look at Islams history with Europe. If nothing is done to tame Islam, Islam will be in Italy in no time.

I must tell you that the USA is getting tired of always having to fight the good fight for the benefit of Europe time after time again. I am surprised that yall, who are in much more danger then us, do not get it. I will also tell you that if we are unsuccessful in Iraq, then the USA will retreat to fortress America, and give up it's role as the world policeman. Is Germany willing to step into that role? Will the world trust the motives of Germany more then it trusts the USA? I think not. Our history has dark moments by we as a nation have done far more good then evil. Americans would much rather be left alone then to get involved in the affairs of other nations. We get involved only because we feel it is our obligation to resist evil on behave of those not strong enough to do it without our help.

Personally, I would be happy to welcome the entire nation of Israel into the USA and let the middle east go to hell.

"Sounds like a weak excuse not to read the articles.

I, and nearly all younger Germans, know these pictures
and articles.
We were grown up with this, and that`s not
a delightful experience, believe me...

Would you like to ask your grandfather what
he has done in WWII, if the chance to get no
or a staggering answer is very likely?

Holy sh**, I am just trying to warn you
*not* to get into this trap. In the name
of *your* kids!

We been there, no thx.

Wouldn`t you try to stop a friend, who is
making the same mistake you once did?
The admin may boot me for this, but
"Be with us or against us" is the wrong
answer. There are more colors of reality
than black & white.

Germany is, for SURE, not your enemy.
Your own blindness is it.

Most Euros still like the US, but you
are playing games with this friendship.

Happy Easter,
Hun

You don`t expect a serious answer on this,
do you?

In german:

Wer nicht hören will, muss fühlen.

Why the hell do you think the US is loosing
every bit of credibility, each day, more and more?

If you don`t need friends, you are very alone,
until now.
