Two Security agents from the German Embassy in Baghdad have been missing in Iraq for several days and may be dead, German officials said Saturday.
Two German men, ages 38 and 25, were travelling from Aman, Jordan to Baghdad on a routine trip Wednesday and were ambushed near Fallujah, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.
'It can't be ruled out that they were killed,' the spokesman told the Associated Press.
'They were ambushed, but their deaths are not yet confirmed.'
Other vehicles in the convoy reached the embassy on Thursday, the spokesman said.
An Iraqi newspaper printed photos of two men today it said it were the elite GSG9 police agents who were missing on the dangerous road near Fallujah, Germany's N-TV television reported.
The two men were sent to protect the embassy and restore water supplies in November.
