I do wonder though what is it that is making them run?

This is why Sadam was able to rise to power and stay in power for so long. These people have no room for independent thought. They have to be led by a strong ruthless leader and they go with whoever they think is strongest.

"Why are our nation's police force sooo brave and their country's so cowardly? Its the people they are recruiting."

Ours are American and theirs are Arab.

It's like Israel and her wars against invading Arabs. If you show some backbone, the Arabs run away every time.

This is a VERY serious turn of events.

One would expect Muslims to murder in cold blood Christian missionaries giving medical or food aid to Muslims.

But for Muslims to murder other Muslims giving this aid indicates a total rebuke of all outside help if any appearance of it could possibly be coming from infidels.

It was reported yesterday that Iranian agents are now becoming successful in uniting the Sunni and Shi'ite Muslim sects in a joint effort in killing the American infidels.

Sunnis and Shi'ites have been mortal enemies (even though both tribes claim Mohammed as their great prophet) for centuries.

They are even praying together in Mosques throughout Iraq for the quick destruction of the infidels.

This is a MAJOR, MAJOR turn for the worst against American efforts to bring a Transitional Government into power and transfer authority back over to the Iraqis.

Yesterday (Friday, 9 April), one of the main members of the Iraqi Transitional Government Council threatened to resign unless the Americans STOPPED THE GENOCIDE AGAINST THE MUSLIMS in Fallujah.

The Mullah in Iran are responsiblea large degree of this insurrection.

The war may soon escalate even further, unless we can seal the border between Iraq and Iran, root out the Iranian agents already inside Iraq, and stabilize the uprising.

We are at a more dangerous juncture now than even when we were invading Iraq, because the possibility of fighting Iran could bring with it the threat of a world war.

Evidently you have forgotten the Crown Heights riots. The police were told to stand down and they did.....for several days. This was at the direct order from Dinkins.

The police will not act unless this gutless "transition council" of prominent Iraqis stop standing around picking their noses and begin to lead from the front. God help them when June 30 comes around and another cleric incites another Jihad. Bush will be forced to step in again to save their sorry bums and he will take enormous flak from the left(But, but, you promised to get out by June 30 - what are you doing helping the Iraqis on July 1? )
Believe me, it's gonna happen.

Sunni Baathists are killing them, as moderates and peacemakers. Targeting anyone reasonable that bridges political divides is a typical terrorist move, designed to radicalize populations, sow hatred and division, and force everyone into little objective social categories chosen by the killers, as the only things that matter. People who act as individuals, consideration of behavior, moral principle, reasonableness - they want to kill all of that. Terror war is one of the ugliest things human beings can do. This is an example of why. It winds up setting people the task of going out and doing the most unprincipled and disgusting thing they can think of, in cold blood.

Zawahiri went to Afghanistan as an employee of the Red Crescent, and Red Crescent ambulances in Pakistan were used by Al Qaeda. However, I would hold judgement; the RC is a decent organization, although it has been invaded by bad guys. These two people may have been killed because they did not play along with the terrorists.

An example being the Japanese hostages, two of whom are aide workers.

There were several threads going the past couple of days about these 2, they may of been willing hostages. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1113742/posts

Why are our nation's police force sooo brave and their country's so cowardly?

The same can be said of their whole country & the idea of freedom. When my son returned from Iraq he was telling us how the Iraqi's would be standing around while the Army did all the work, but would bitch & complain there was no work, but would be first in line to pickup that unearned pay. They wanted everything handed to them. A concept my son and many others didn't understand, if you want something you have work for it.

Funny how growing up with freedom gives one the courage to act free & strong. The Iraqis are still afraid of who will eventually be in power & fear retribrution. I cannot blame them for their apparent cowardice.

We have worse problems for sure than a just a few months back. Even worse, the hot weather is on it's way and Iraqis will be even more hot, volatile and crazy.

I have no good answers, only hope that this will all Peter out. But not with Iran actively engaged in supplying money, explosives experts in roadside bombings and other agents who come across the border as "religious pilgrims" to visits Shi'ite holy sites in Iraq

The best we're doing now pacifying hot spots and holding down the fort. We cannot easily move forward with reconstruction now. Foreign aid workers being kidnapped or killed. Oil facilities hit by guerilla sabotage. Where is Iraqi oil production at now?

No wonder the Iraqi Police force and security are turning tails and running. If we don't get a stronger police force in Iraq they will never have peace in their country

You can hire a man to wear a uniform

You can even hire a man to wear a gun

A paycheck will not buy courage, honor, or a sense of duty if the culture did not instill it before the hiring process

I have a feeling that it will be a difficult and frustrating process to find the right people, assuming they exist in adequate numbers in Iraq at all

Oh I agree. But it sickens me to see their police force cutting and running. How would you like to see your police force start laying down their weapons and running everytime there is a situation.

I would not like it. That's why, when we saw the LAPD run away like rabbits on national TV during the LA riots, my wife bought me my first firearm as a birthday present shortly thereafter
