North Korea said Friday the standoff over its atomic ambitions was on the brink of nuclear war as US Vice President Dick Cheney headed to the region for talks with key Asian allies.
The Stalinist state's official news agency accused Washington of "driving the military situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of a nuclear war" with plans for a pre-emptive strike on North Korea.

I'm not sure one or two gook missles that (1) may or may not get off the launch pad and (2) may or may not make it to any target and (3) may or may not detonate.... VS several hundred MIRV's hitting within yards of their targets, turning North Korea in to the world's first self illuminated glass paved parking lot can be considered a "nuclear war", but hey, take your best shot.

I can understand about the pistol, the survival rations, the medicine, the money, the phrasebook and the Bible, but what are the "prophylactics, three lipsticks and three pair of nylon stockings" for?

Look at the title again, and then look further down in the story - the title leaves out the word "was". How deceptive is that?

Ill never understand with all the tech we have and all the Intel and covert ops we have laying at our disposal why we don't deal with idiots like these swiftly and quietly
Haven't we learned by now that some people will not negotiate this guy can bleed to death in his sleep and not even the scent of an American spec ops would be within 100 miles by the time breakfast was being served

Alright, let's say they have 100 missiles, armed with a single nuclear war head. Let's say that Kim is just stupid enough to fire 90% of his missiles in a first strike. We pick up the launch at NORAD. DEFCON 1 and we start the defense. We get 90% of the 90%. 5 incoming hit their targets. We go a tenth of our arsenal and blow NK back to the stone age. We lose a million, he loses everything. Game over, we win.
And that's the worst case scenario.

1. They do not have anywhere near 100 missiles with nuclear warheads.
2. We do not have anything that will reliably knock these missiles down. Yet.
3. Hence the administration's emphasis on missile defense. 'Course, John Kerry thinks we should spend that money on fighting terrorism. (We need more "first responders" to clean up the mess when the terrorists hit us ya know.)

It was a hypothetical, and a "liberal" estimation at that. Don't get "goin' around" here. Your point is in line with mine.

I don't think Korea has a missle that can reach the U.S. They will be firing on an ally, either S.Korea or Japan.
