Dead (his tagline... eye out for Mullah Omar... IS THE BEST EVER)

I'll never stop laughing at this amazing tagline either.

I wish President Bush would use it in a speech. lol!

FR is all sublimer
I'm a creaky freep old-timer
I'm a favorite freeper rhymer
But perhaps I'm just a clymer!

(sniff)

My most-appreciated freepers are John Huang 2, Kattracks and Diogenesis. More talented and dedicated posters/worker bees do not exist.

The offer of coffee is for NORMAL coffee, right?

Yes, Normal coffee. I would never punish anyone with your stuff.

God . . . has given us the ministry of reconciliation. —2 Corinthians 5:18

God has a purpose and plan for your life
When from your sin He has given release;
You're an ambassador for Jesus Christ
Go and tell others of His perfect peace.

When we experience peace with God, we can share His peace with others.

There's little I can add to My2Cents' very touching response to you, "red." I often struggle with how to say something from my heart without coming off as stilted, or pompous, or some other unintentionally negative characterization. As someone who's spent my entire career in public communications of one sort or another, I know how exceedingly imperfect a tool language is to use to accurately connect the thoughts of human beings.

So let me try to say something here from the heart, and hope it comes across as intended:

The Good Lord did not see fit to bless me with much in life. But He did give me an active mind, a love of reading, a good education, and a gift for the written word. The way I look at it, I owe Him a debt to use those gifts as best I can. My heart tells me the best way is through some service to my community and country.

When I moved at the end of March, I came across an old newspaper clipping in a scrapbook. It was from the Jersey Journal (Jersey City, NJ) at a time when I was in high school and had written the Mayor to try to get a street light installed at a busy corner where older people had trouble crossing. The clipping was a story about how I had succeeded in pressuring city hall to install the light. Finding the clipping made me smile, because it reminded me of just how deep and longstanding my impulse to "fight city hall" goes.

In the intervening years, I've often volunteered my skills on campaigns to help the underdog: school board races, fights against annexation, and the like. When the internet came along, finding a "community" forum of like-minded folks on FR was a joy for me.

Which brings me to the point I want to make: I don't need any thanks or compliments for what I do here on FR. Quite the opposite. It is I who am blessed by this opportunity. I'm uncomfortable singling any other FReeper out for special notice as a "favorite," because the entire community — yes, even people with whom I vigorously disagree — enriches me every day I'm able to come onto the forum.

There's always something I learn, something to spark my imagination, or some opportunity to make a point I consider important, or a chance to support the President and Republican/conservative causes, or to impart a bit of knowledge I've picked up along the way. FR is my public square, where I can jostle shoulder-to-shoulder with other bright, involved, articulate people to make my voice heard on the events of the day.

And just as in the real public square of an earlier era, there is a rich tapestry of characters in this public square. We have everything from curmudgeons, to professors, to lawyers, to ministers, to politicians, to moles from the other party, to moms and dads worrying about children in the military, even to recipe clubs — just about every character Dikens or Mark Twain could have conjured up in their time. It's life and it's wonderful.

Nope, my ego needs no thanks or recognition for participating on FR. Rather, it is I who am profoundly grateful to Jim Robinson for creating FR, to all those who help to keep it going, and to folks like you, M2C and "red," for making it so very, very interesting and worthwhile.

Have seen way too many good FReepeers here, but have not been here long enough to even know how to list them all.

But special thanks to Howlin and Meek for keeping me tuned in. Without their pings I'd miss way too much good stuff.

That's very kind SL.

I have resisted listing here. Damn, I like everyone almost even many I don't agree with. I have had some rough fights with South bashers so I know I have garnered some foes on that and other cultural-social issues. I know I'm pretty far right on that compared to most FReepers....particularly non-Southerners.

I'm partial to Mississippi and Middle Tennessee FReepers. Same for the bang_list gang. I'm also partial to ex-pats since I was one for the better part of 16 years.

I did learn first hand 10 weeks ago about how wonderfully FReepers can reach out during times of crisis or life and death matters. I printed that entire thread and will cherish it forever. It's about 5 inches thick and I may get someone to bind it for my offspring (4).

Thanks.

You two put together some of the most interesting and informative Military threads.

I can't tell you how often I have used them for reference.
I have told my kids and others, if you need info, go to the foxhole.

Thanks for all you do!

I'd never post a favorites list here. No matter how many I listed, I'd hurt the feelings of those I forgot to list. So I'll just leave it at my two: harpseal and sneakypete.
