LOL. He beat you like a rented mule. Not surprising considering your inability to keep a job. How many “careers” did you say you had?

Sorry I couldn't prevent the moon landing, or the end of the war or the oil crash. I should have tried harder, so like you I could have 1 year of experience repeated 25 times.

I've had an interesting life, and worked successfully around the world. Too bad you have been stuck in Houston for 25 years.

Gee, I guess I shouldn't be wasting my own time on an engineer. The only ones with denser heads I know are Marines.

LMAO. You do know that every manager has a cull list of 10% of his employees that will be the first to go? Based on how you have acted on this thread I would bet that you were in the first 1% of that cull list. BTW I have been in Houston since 1974 and I survived the "oil crash" without a day’s unemployment. I wouldn't be surprised if you were not on MY cull list.

443 - "I survived the "oil crash" without a day’s unemployment."

So did one of my clerks. None of our engineers remained employed. Low level people survived, as they didn't cost much to maintain. From 9ea 500 foot long floors of hard working people to 1/2 a floor of 'house keepers'.

Without a good economy, there is no security.

Terrorism kills thousands.

A bad econcomy kills/disables millions and disables our country and our military.

By that logic WWII should never have been fought.

Government will always lose to the corporations. And if the government ever wins the collateral damage will hurt far more of the little people than will be helped.

Especially in the banana republics.

Or, our medical/pharmaceuticals business without Medicaid and Medicare?

And without patent protection or import restrictions.

I ain't a democrat, never have been and never will be; but, I'm wondering now why I'm republican, cause some of you make me ashamed of the word.

You're probably neither a Republican nor Democrat, as both are dominated by neocon globalist yuppies. You're more likely a Buchanan Republican, but they've been purged from the GOP. You'd likely enjoy Buchanan's The American Conservative magazine. I enjoy it.

Well the founders would disagree with you. Most of the used REAL slave labor.

Yep, and we made it illegal. Next non-point.

Personally, if I have to live under constant threat of ruin by tyrants, I'm better off to shred my SSN, sell what I have and find a nice piece of moutainside where no one will bother me. When you can't get civilized conduct from what purports to be civilization, it ain't worth it. If you can't provide security in a society, It offers nothing. We might as well all be living on a mountainside, we'd at least know we could rely on ourselves. It's a pretty deep subversion when you teach people that the things they've setup in society to secure themselves can't be counted on. It's nothing short of pseudo organized anarchy. And that is why it leads to revolution.

Great passage. Similar ones are in the Bible:

" So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying,

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.

And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?

And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.

And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,

And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
[..]
Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. "

(2Chron:10:3-16,18)

At some point, we've got to stop kneeling before the altar of the free market & take a good look at what's happening around us.

Last winter, I frequented a Starbucks in NY. One of the barristas was a white guy who looked to be in his late 40s. Too old to be entry level, too young to be retired, and yet there he was. He was always very friendly, like he was happy to have a job. I wondered what his story was (actor? fired IT guy?) but I didn't want to embarrass him by asking.

Guy: I need a new job, my employer is going to outsource my position.

Facility: Well we were looking for a brain surgeon...

Guy: Can I train on-the-job?

Look I empathize. It sucks that corporations are send our jobs overseas. But by the time Bush or any one else plugs all the leaks and loopholes the damage will be done. There will be many displaced workers not able to make ends meet. The time to stop this was during the second term of the Clinton administration. But how was anyone going to do that when we don't even control our borders??

Now we are all going to have to wait 5 years as the Asians steal our Intellectual Property and all the outsourcing starts to be accounted for in dollars and cents. Then some companies will realize it was cheaper and more effective to do business right here.

I've gotten out of the pure software business myself. Not only do you have to compete with foreign nationals that are paid a fraction of their American counterparts you also have open source projects that can take your profit potential away from you just as fast.

The answer to the problem is control our borders. Stop with the waves of illegals who live 20 to a house and get fake IDs that keep the price down on labor as a whole. Second complain in the supermarket when you're paying the same price now for foreign produce as you used to for American. Ever tried to by a can opener?? The ones I've seen are all made in China.

That all sounds very reasonable. And at first glance would seem to work on many levels. My question/problem is why isn't the Bush campagain doing more to educate us on this? I don't expect you to have all the answers, but it would seem that if there is a plan, it should be detailed, rather than allow FUD to continue to build.

By that logic WWII should never have been fought.

Those John Wayne movies were really good, but they do not delve deep enough to give you an appreciation of what led to WWII. The economic collapse happened first; then the bullets and bombs started flying; then the economic crisis was "fixed".

Here is a little on-line classic for you: http://socserv2.socsci.mcmaster.ca/~econ/ugcm/3ll3/keynes/peace

Gotta control those greedy kulaks, they're hurting the revolution.

We are not talking about kulaks. It is the reform minded oligarchs (Khodorkovsky/Enron/etc style) who are destroying the kulaks of today.

You keep claiming ownership of corporations that don't belong to you. I thought it was the corporation's technology and industry.

Wait a minute! In the post #403 you said:

"Last time I looked, corporations were people too. Owners, workers, suppliers and customers."

Are you flip-flopping or what?

He, he. You start to bring stronger arguments! But to make people slaves you need to defeat them first.
