America’s Moment of Truth
The Reality Check ^ | 09 April 2004 | Justin Darr

I know this does not happen often, but the “religion of peace” has somehow managed to produce yet another hate spewing, psychopath cleric bent on destroying America. Iraqi “holy man” Muqtada al-Sadr has decided to use his new found freedom to expand his horizons beyond simply brutalizing the people in his immediate vicinity for his personal aggrandizement. He is now aspiring to become Iraq’s next authoritarian butcher. Just think, it was only one year ago when all al-Sadr had to look forward to in his day was burying young girls up to their necks in the sand and dutifully smashing stones into their heads for allowing themselves to get pregnant after being raped. Today, Sadr can hide in his mosque and direct a militant uprising against the Great Satan for oppressing the Iraqi people by building infidel schools, hospitals, electrical plants, and public sanitation systems for them courtesy of the American tax payer. What Sadr would give for a good old fashioned “holy” poison gas attack to show his rivals Allah’s mercy.

Thanks to Sadr and other like minded thugs, Iraq is exploding in violence that might be the beginning of the final battle for Iraq. Americans have to understand is that there is no guarantee that our armed forces will be victorious. In terms of militarily power there is no concern. The United States Army and Marine Corps could easily crush the Iraqi resistance in a matter of a few weeks. However, John Kerry, Teddy “I’m only giving you a ride home, why do you need that snorkel” Kennedy, and the rest of the Liberal establishment are defeating the United States in a way no foreign power ever could; by undermining our will to win this War through their negative, anti-American, comments.

George Bush is partially to blame for allowing this fifth column attack on our troops. In the wake of 9/11, Bush made great efforts to portray Islam as a religion that did not incorporate violence as one of its tenants of faith. He did this largely to prevent a public backlash against American Moslems (after all, we cannot have our citizens treating Moslems in America like… well, how Moslems treat people in their own countries). However, this pattern of pandering to Islamic activists did not stop there. The original name for the invasion of Afghanistan was not Enduring Freedom, but Operation Infinite Justice. The name was changed due to complaints from Moslems that the term “infinite” was offensive to them when applied to any term other than “Allah”. Not to be argumentative, but the destruction of the World Trade Center was pretty offensive to me, and I did not see our enemies caring about it. If Moslem leaders have enough time to worry about the names of our military operations being insulting to our enemies, then they should have ample time to condemn Islamic terrorism without the inevitable “but” that seems to always follow (i.e. the attack in the Pentagon was terrible, BUT Israel fights back when we blow up a bus full of their school children.)

The political correctness in our military campaigns has continued into Iraq. For the last year we have been engaging in an attempt to win “the hearts and minds” of the Iraqi people. 75% of Iraqis support the Coalition troops in their country not because of how nice we have been to them, but because we got rid of Saddam Hussein. Yes, they like the idea of a free society. Yes, they want become a democracy. The bottom line, however, is that they no longer have to fear for their lives if they go to a soccer game and root against Uday’s favorite team. The problem is by being politically correct in Iraq, America has mistakenly assumed that the other 25% of Iraq’s population has a heart and mind to win. By pressuring our armed services to act warm and fuzzy rather than like the fighting force they are, America is now paying the price in blood from fanatics like Sadr who have taken advantage of our humanitarianism as a chance to arm themselves.

We are in a life or death struggle in Iraq. America will win or lose the entire War on Terror depending on how we choose to fight this insurrection. Are we going to continue to wait a few days before we pick up the burnt carcasses of our murdered civilians, or are we going to teach these fanatics that the price of their violence is too high to pay? The only way we will stop the threat of terrorism is to crush our enemies so thoroughly that 9/11 is seared into their minds like a dark nightmare. Obviously, this will mean that we have to fight this war like we actually want to win. The only way to do this is to make the lives of the people who accommodate the terrorists miserable enough that they stop harboring these madmen. If Moslems do not want their mosques searched, then they should not allow them to be used to house rocket propelled grenades. If the citizens of Fallugah want food, electricity, and clean water, then they need to turn the terrorists in their midst over to American forces. The cold blooded fact is that 30 years of living under Saddam Hussein is not an excuse for the Iraqis to tolerate these militants thriving in their midst. If the populations of Iraq, Afghanistan, or any nation permit our enemies to live unscathed in their society, then they must be held accountable for the consequences of their inaction.

Even here in America, we must hold ourselves responsible for allowing Teddy Kennedy to shout insane lies about the War on Terror and Iraq being another Vietnam and not voting him out of office or censuring him so thoroughly that he is never taken seriously again. Terrorists do not spend their time running around the desert looking for places to water their camels. They are intelligent and sophisticated with access to modern technology and the American media. They hear Kerry’s simpering about how much he wants America to abandon the War on Terror. Do you not think that this might, oh, I do not know, embolden our enemies to fight? President Bush knows that if he would actually wage the War on Terror properly John Kerry and his Socialist cohorts will come unhinged screeching that Bush is another Hitler, he is as bad as Saddam, he is committing genocide, and any other blather their creative imaginations can spew to prevent Americans from living free from the fear of terrorism. There will be no end to the lies and distortions in their attacks, and it very well might cost Bush the election. However, if George Bush is truly a wartime President, and if he honestly cares about defending America and its Constitution, then it should be a sacrifice he is willing to make.

And yet, you can not call liberals unpatriotic.

Outstanding post, Lando, thanks.

Ann Coulter said something pertinent the other day: To update the old cold war joke, if American Liberals aren't on al Qaeda's payroll, they're getting gypped.

Fantastic article!!! Now if only Bush and Rumsfeld would read it! We've been polite, courteous, and "ethical" long enough. Let's get this show on the road and quit "assuming" these nuts have hearts or morals. They know only hatred and war -- and it's time we end their delusional thinking regarding beating the "Great Satan." They need to be shown that they are, in truth, their own worst enemies.

The democrats want America on its knees in Iraq so they can re-live their salad days of post-vietnam america, when they made their greatest gains in the disassembling our great nation.

I cannot stand the thought of the screwing they have in mind for us. They must NOT be allowed to do it again.

Very darring :)) and correct, I afraid.

My only hope, is that military, while not listening too much to the Left's shrills, will finish off those who oppose Iraq's more reasonable future. It might not be by design, but it looks like that our indecisiveness smoked out some impatient enemies. We get a chance now to finish off those who dispersed at our rapid advance in the beginning.

Excellent article. The problem is not only that those 25% will never accept us, but we will soon start losing the 75% who do.

You make a very good point about the U.S. fighting the Iraqi forces that dispersed during the initial Iraqi Invasion. After all, they had to go SOMEWHERE.

From the current news reports it seems as though our troops are taking the fighting seriously. However, as expected, the Iraqis, the media, and very soon the American Liberals are already going ape.

If elements of the Iraqi governing council want to leave the democratic process over our efforts to secure their nation, then let them leave. I am sure that the Kurds would be more than happy to pick up whatever political vacuum is left open. The bottom line is that we are in Iraq to protect OUR interests first.
