I am starting a new folder called FR - Witness to History. This one is going in it, as is Columbia, WTC, the elections, etc.
One day these would make an incredible book. There is nothing like them.

That's a good idea. Imagine historians decades/centuries from now mulling through our thoughts, commentaries, sarcasms.

One day these would make an incredible book. There is nothing like them. There sure isn't. The NYT admitted just as much in publishing Freepers' live reactions to two of the most significant events of the 21st Century -- 9/11, and the disintegration of the Columbia.
(Not to mention American Idol 2, The Bartman Incident, and the Super Bowl halftime show).
I was in a Freeper IRC channel chatting with an average of about twenty others when Ken Starr was grilled by the House Judiciary Committee in 1998. Starr was cool as a cucumber (until Clinton's personal lawyer Bruce Lindsey's smarmy questioning late in the evening) and essentially kicked butt all over the likes of Barney Frank, John Conyers, Jerrold Nadler, the incredibly irritating Robert Wexler, Zoe Lofgren, and Sheila Jackson-Lee. It was a shining moment for Starr, and I wrote to then-Freeper Lucianne Goldberg that I hoped Starr went home, had a couple of glasses of wine and a sweet night of love with his wife, because when he woke up the next morning, the media was going to pretend that he had been demolished by the 'rats.
