I have never gotten the Islamic take on Christianity. They consider Him a prophet...but not the Son of God, so apparently they consider Him a prophet who lied. I get cognitive dissonance just thinking about it...and I'm an atheist.

Muslims believe Christ was a prophet sent from God to teach mankind. They believe that He was not the Son of God however. Muslims do not believe in a Tiune God as do Christians. They believe someone else was switched for Him and died in His place because God would never let one of His prophets be crucified. They also believe that Mohammad was the last prophet - the Seal of the Prophets. That after him no prophets could possibly come. Yet we have so-called "Black" Muslims who believe Elijah Mohammad was a prophet. People can find all kinds of ways to justify what they believe is correct.
Even if you are an atheist or agnostic - you should read some theological history. Its amazing what people can find to kill each other over and equally amazing how they can totally miss a message.

They not only say he was a false prophet. They not only say he was NOT the Son of God ("Allah has no son"), they also say that he NEVER DIED ON THE CROSS (it is actually said in the Quran). So yes as usual the Muslims are lying when they say they "revere" Jesus...he is portrayed as a liar and a charlatan.

I get cognitive dissonance just thinking about it...and I'm an atheist. The way they work around it, is by going on the basis that the Gospels are an inaccurate rendition of what happened and what Jesus said. In any conflict between the Qu'ran and the Old or New Testements, the Party line is that whatever contradicts the Qu'ran is incorrect, and the Qu'ran is the correction to it.
Per Islam, the Word was originally given to Moses, and was later corrupted, then Jesus came along to correct it, and his words were distorted, so Allah sent Mohammod the final correction

I get cognitive dissonance just thinking about it...It's all related to the Islamic take on Christian (and Jewish) scriptures. They see both the Old and New Testaments as corrupted and revised(even though there is no evidence of that...) and Mohammed 600 years after Christ had revealed to him the truth, correcting the biblical accounts.
This in spite of 4 separate, apparently eye-witness accounts to the life of Jesus, and his death (and ressurection) written down--and tens of thousands dying by that time for the belief that Jesus is God (as opposed to the Roman Emperor) who died and was raised...(contra the Quoran's teaching).
Simlarly they see the Old Testament as corrupted by the "evil" Jews (without a shred of evidence) and so Mohammed set the record strait that it was Ishmael (Abraham's b*stard son) not Isaac who was the heir to God's promises to Abraham.
As a Christian, I can't help but see Islam as a conterfeit to real faith--which spits in the face of recorded history--in the name of a supposed revealed history.
What is that statisitic? Of the 41 current wars around the world 38 involve Islamic peoples? Jesus said you shall know them by their fruit.
