US marines pressing an offensive in this Iraqi town west of Baghdad bombed a mosque in the center of the town Wednesday and killed up to 40 insurgents inside, a marine officer said.
The attack came from a jet aircraft at a high angle to minimize the impact, the officer said.
"We wanted to kill the people inside," said Lieutenant Colonel Brennan Byrne.

She and her husband are both conservatives. He runs a business so is very busy. She had a aneurysm about six or seven years ago, and her eyes aren't that great. It's difficult for her to maneuver around in the computer. But her husband told me he was going to put the FR site up for her to read last night and today. I told him to follow my screen name to see all the beautiful people here.
So she is reading this. Say "hi" to Kathleen in Minnesota.

Most of the militant Muslims believe that Allah would not allow the destruction of a Mosque .... especially with them in it. When we blow one a Mosque and the people in it the Militants can have just one of 2 conclusions. Allah did not think them worthy of saving or Allah does not exist. Once Religious zealots come to doubt their religious beliefs they are easily defeated. They were absolutely certain we would not and could not bomb a Mosque. The fact that we did will shake their resolve and their faith in Allah. You could write for Bill O'Reilly!

Don't worry. The polls reflect about a week and a half of depressing news from Iraq. After the marines have a few weeks to pave over some of the idiots causing the trouble in Iraq and Condi testifies, they will go up.
Kerry is putting his foot in his mouth again, in any event. Just listen to him flip flop on his views regarding al-Sadr's news paper. Kerry is his own worst enemy.

Not at all. It's an example of how editing makes the reporters sound better then they actually are (and how they can make the interviewees sound worse than they actually are, if they wish to.

There are plenty of true christians that think catholics are evil baby eaters, and Mormons crackpot inbreedersThere are very set definition set out in the Bible that defines who is and who is not a Christian. Protestants protest many practices in the Catholic church that does not make Catholics non-Christian. The same is true for all religions there is a deffinition of what it takes to follow the religion. The KKK and Mormans are denounced as not Christian by every mainline Christian church there is they do not meet the deffinition and you can find much written on the subject as to why. You either follow the fundamentals of the religions or you don't and thus get defined, not very hard thing to determine.
I have several friends that are lapsed muslims. They still call themselves muslim (there is a death sentence hanging over their head if the religion is renounced) but they do not in the least practice it or participate in it. They are muslim in name only.

It's the complete and utter disregard for its status as a holy place I'm referring to. They have absolutely no compunction regarding the desecration of others' holy sites.

But we must be prepared for the Islamists to hit a Western church or temple. They destroyed St. Nicholas on 9/11.
Paybacks are a b!tch.

thanks for the link to the WAPO
"We've got to be careful," said one officer receiving a request for air support from the Marines around the mosque.
"We have some bad folks dug in," came the response. "They're creating a problem for us. What should we do? We need backup."
"We need regimental approval," came the reply.
At least three missiles were fired from a helicopter at the mosque compound, news agencies reported. Part of a wall surrounding the Abdul-Aziz Samarrai mosque was demolished, although the mosque building was not damaged, the Associated Press reported, and cars ferried bodies from the scene. The offices of an organization of Sunni clerics next door was also lightly damaged, AP said.
Looks like our guy can "thread a needle" from several thousand feet up.
From the initial reports, it sounded like we blew up the whole mosque and killed a bunch of innocents.

She may have. She was blind in one eye for about a year. Her vision was never that great to begin with. I'll ask her when I talk to her later on this week, though.
