Jordan sentences eight to death over US diplomat murder

A Jordanian court has sentenced eight Islamic militants to death for the murder of a United States diplomat in the capital Amman 18 months ago.

Jordanian authorities say the men are linked to the Al Qaeda terror network.

Laurence Foley, a diplomat with the US Agency for International Development, was shot dead outside his Amman home in October of 2002.

The Jordanian court also sentenced two other men to 15 years in jail in connection with the killing.

Jordanian authorities say at least one of the men sentenced to die - Abu Musab al-Zarqawi - has connections with Al Qaeda.

The United States regards Jordan as a key Arab ally in its fight against terrorism.

Good. When they're dead, that means innocents were saved.

The Jordanians intercepted a truck bomb from Syria today as well. The bomb was intended to be used in an attack on the US embassy in Jordan.

I guess we should be thankfull that king Abdulla keeps his radicals on a fairly short leash. At least our guys in Iraq dont have to keep looking over their shoulder toward Jordan.

Interesting, considering that hadith forbids executing a Muslim for the murder of an infidel.

Call me skeptical, but I would feel much better if the article had been about the executions being carried out.
My bet is we never hear about these clowns again.

“Lebanese militant group issues statement”
Published: 12.09.08, 23:29 / Israel News

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In the statement purportedly by Fatah Islam, the group said its leader, Shaker al-Absi, fled Lebanon in 2007 and went to Syria, where he was ambushed by Syrian security forces. They say al-Absi is a Palestinian linked to the late leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq. He was sentenced to death in absentia in Jordan for his involvement in the 2002 murder of US diplomat Laurence Foley in Amman.”
