"That's a damn good ratio if you ask me." Sorry, I disagree.
You've been there and I haven't, but with the firepower we have there is no reason anyone with an RPG or mortar should have gotten that close.
We are trying soooo hard to limit collateral damage, but that's part of warfare.

Thanks! I have switched. She is saying that we did have a good plan, and is refuting King's questions. Says she was in a coversation with Condi Rice in which she said "Karen, this is going to be really hard. Lots of people won't agree with us, include many in our own country."
Karen said"Is it right"
Condi said, "Absolutely."

No way...I'd puke right there, on the spot...serious puking, too...worse than seeing Brokenjaw...not much worse, but still worse...You make the obscure point I was trying to make...while O'Reilly is controversial, the mistake FReepers make is assuming he is a conservative. He is not, never passes himself off as one, and subsequentlly, should be viewed in that perspective.
I think he has some good things to say, but agree with an earlier poster who said he does not do his homework and is often uninformed about a lot of things. Ya gotta remember, as Rush often says, IT'S ENTERTAINMENT FIRST...and judging by his ratings, he is doing a pretty good job. I often flip the channel to World's Funniest Pets...at least I can understand what's happening there.

Oh, Larry has to put RICHARD CLARKE on before going to a commercial!
That man Clarke makes me crazy. I won't post for a bit until I calm down.

Everyone should see "Mrs. Miniver." Especially Bill O'Reilly!!! I agree. People don't know how easy they have it today. I ask my parents about how it was during World War II since they lived through it and they mention the rationing and such, but to go through the blitz like the Brits did day in and day out for years is a portrait in courage, IMO.

"I only worry about the nervous nellies that seems to think that war is now so clean and antiseptic that we should never expect casualties." I am far from being a "nervous Nelly".
I expect to have troops killed, but the only reason you'd ever have troops closed up in a walled compound fighting for their life is because our Marines aren't allowed to use the firepower they have for fear of killing civilians.

Poor Larry... he actually thinks he is in charge tonight. LOL

"You've been there and I haven't, but with the firepower we have there is no reason anyone with an RPG or mortar should have gotten that close."
They don't have to get that close. a 60 or an 82mm mortar can be concealed in the back of a Toyota pick up and can be fired from up to a kilometer away. Safely out of the line of sight of the Marines. It's an indirect fire weapon similiar to artillery.
122mm rockets can be fire from up to 2 klicks away. Again safely out of range of our Infantry.
Thanks to the libs and the partisian press we are FORCED to limit collateral damage. IMHO there are NO real innocents where any Iraqi is concerned. Anytime Haji can be paid $50 to go hang three mortar rounds at the local coalition troops on any given night NO ONE should be treated as a non-combatant.
But unfortuneately, our ROE over there won't allow us to act that way.

Where'd you get this idea that we can conduct warfare without casualties?
Wars are won by breaking the spine of the enemy before they break yours. That's when the pain of fighting will stop, and not before. Fighting wars hurts on many levels. It is an ugly business, and many many very good men will die before we are done.
We don't have to like it. But we do have to finish it.
I think it is quite possible that today is the beginning of the end for the resistance in Iraq. In a way it is the last fight in the fish when it sees the net. It's over for them, and now we're proving it to the last holdouts. At least I hope so.

Now Larry is making me watch Ted Kennedy, who I have been avoiding all week. Karen better come out swinging about this.

"More like shades of the Guadalcanal cleanup" Guadacanal was a military operation, all the way.
WWII was a military operation for the most part.
We can't put a boot in someone's ass if we're going to furnish a pillow to soften the blow.
To: Ramius
supposedly the Sadr militia is 10,000 strong (??). add the Sunni's to that, we've got to pick up the rate at which we are taking these guys out.
To: bcoffey
He is such a puppet. I wonder who is feeding him his questions tonight.
