U.S. Muslims seek Pentagon probe on Iraq photo
Soldier's sign says he killed boy's father, impregnated sister
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called for a Pentagon investigation of a photograph circulating on the Internet that apparently shows an American soldier mocking an Iraqi child.
The photo sent to CAIR seems to be of an American soldier standing next to two Iraqi children who are giving the thumbs-up sign. One child holds a hand-lettered sign in English that reads: "Lcpl Boudreaux killed my Dad, th(en) he knocked up my sister!" ("Knocked up" is American slang for making someone pregnant out of wedlock.)

I think you miss the point .. the kid is smiling because he can't read English - who knows what he thinks is on the sign. At least that is what CAIR is pre-supposing and the Arabian network will make a deal about.
If this writing is true, this soldier is totally wrong to do this. If it is not, and the photo has been doctored, then there is a different issue and we need to show that it is.

LOL! Bravo, sir!
I hope this issue shows up, posted by the libs, on a neutral board I frequent. My reply will be no text, just that pic. It will shut them right up.

"...The total lack of any insignia and writing on the uniform ..."The left shoulder patch (division patch) is missing. No rank on hat. No rank on collar. No name badge on flak vest.
No chance at all that this guy is US military.

CAIR is a organization devoted to the LIE, supported by the LIE and made up of LIARS. It is totally opposed to the truth and is an enemy of America in every respect. To believe CAIR is the equivalent of believing Satan or even DemocRATS. Screw CAIR and all its adherents.

"HOWEVER, if this photo is true then this soldier should be repremanded. This is mocking the population there, and we nead only positive messages. This soldier was rather tastless in his choice of humor."So what would YOU suggest as a "reprimand" to the soldier?
Have a member of CAIR spank his @ss on CNN??

To believe CAIR is the equivalent of believing Satan or even DemocRATS. Screw CAIR and all its adherents. No one is arguing anything that you are saying, CAIR is not to be trusted that is certain. However, based on your email, you seem to be believing that CAIR is representing that the data on this cardboard is accurate. That is not what I am seeing or reading. They are pointing to the mockery that this soldier is 'allegedly' making of these boys and pointing to atrocities that US military might be accused of.
If this soldier did this, he needs to be reprimanded, if it is a photo touch up obviously not.
If the soldier is reprimanded, his argument might be that he was pointing to the 'irony' that US Soldiers are being accused of when in actuality the truth is that (as you say) this young man would not be smiling if it is true.

I would normally say the photo is fake, however what others are talking about (the blockiness) could very well be attributed to jpeg compression. If somebody scans in a photo or negative, or uses a digital camera, and the output is jpeg, and then they resize for web/e-mail and save as a jpeg again (or do anything else as a jpeg) then it's going to be blocky everywhere because your introducing more jpeg artifacts a second or third time around.
Now if they had started with a TIFF file (or at least did most of the manipulation with a TIFF converted from a jpeg), and did some editing, and then saved as a jpeg, then you would have a blocky-looking sign with the rest of the pic being relative clean/sharp.

What are YOU suggesting? That because the 'source' is suspect, that even if it is true we should let it pass?
(and by IT we are talking about posing for such a picture, not actually doing what the sign says which is not even being claimed by CAIR. Seem to need to make that clarification for a few readers on this thread.)

I concur. i.e. there is no assurance yet that this is a fake picture. JPEG artifacts can be the explanation for most of what is discussed so far.
I think that the fact that this guy has no insignia's at all, makes me wonder if he is really US Military? (as some one already raised this point.) I have heard someone say that he is from Tampa, but other than that we have no real verification. That would be the real test.

There has been nothing from me indicating any belief that CAIR tells the truth about anything. How many times do I have to use the word LIE and LIAR to remove that misimpression from your mind?

This is apparently a Marine (a Lance Corporal).
Marines do not have division patches on their uniforms, unlike the Army.
The collar is obscured by the flak vest.
Marine enlisted personnel do not wear their rank insignia on their headgear.
Also, the USMC does not put name badges on the flak vest, as they are "782 gear" (i.e., organizational issue).
This guy could be a Marine. The joke here is certainly stupid and tasteless enough to appeal to Marines (including me).
This guy needs to be sent to his Gunny for an a$$-chewing. End of problem.

"What are YOU suggesting? That because the 'source' is suspect, that even if it is true we should let it pass?"IF it's true, the prank is inappropriate, BUT a it's a piddley "offense" IMO.
The venue for this war isn't exactly a Catholic school classroom.
