Where's the surprise? When unions gain total power, they force employers to use only memebers of union (the ones who pay the unions dues). They then require employers to use more union members than are really required with the "extra" positions being phantom jobs, "held" by the friends and relatives of the union bosses or full time union stewards who are on the payroll but do not work while they are protecting the rights of the union members who sort of work.

Unions hate volunteers! They do the work of dues payers and they do it better and faster and with enthusaism and very little oversight.

In some states, tems of parent/volunteers actually maintain public school buildings avoiding the employment of 100s of way overpaid (most folks would not believe the pensions or medical health benefits) and lazy (and, perhaps, dope dealing) unionized building maintenance employees.
