I caught the sarcasm. My position is somewhere in the middle of "what do you suggest, we should just let them kill us" and "kill em all and let God sort em out"...neither position is helpful and assuming that the other side in the arguement believes it is less helpful.

I don't buy the political thing at all. H.W. Bush is roundly cited as losing because we won "too quickly" in Iraq and "didn't finish the job"...and any positives were outweighed by the economy (lied about by Dan Rather specifically and others generally) and that idiot and embarassment to USNA, Ross Perot.

Regardless of the attention span of the mob, I believe that this administration will take the input from the commanders on the ground, just as they have in the past. Looks as thought the Marines are beginning the TCB process today.

The point I posted about this wasn't just my opinion on this -- it was a point of speculation as far back as the winter of 2003. Richard Perle was the Defense Department official who was most vocal in his opinion that the U.S. would make quick work in Iraq, and would be largely finished with their work by the time this election year rolled around. His resignation (about two years too late, in my opinion) under a cloud of disgrace related to his lobbying efforts has obscured the fact that he has been wrong on just about every point in this war.
