It would personally protect them more than not being armed. Sure, they'd be better able to protect themselves with nukes and missile batteries and helicopters and chemical weapons and such, but what they have is better than nothing. I'd want whatever I could get my hands on to protect my home and family. I'd at least be able to take out some opposition in the process.

Just so we're clear, I care more about our troops than the average Iraqi who hasn't been the target of violence to this point in the least.
