Fox News Channel host Bill O'Reilly and nationally syndicated radio host G. Gordon Liddy are blasting each other in a mini-feud ignited by media libs Paul Begala and Al Franken. The stone throwing apparently started Thursday night, when Begala, hosting "Crossfire," asked Liddy about why his Westwood One colleague O'Reilly "hasn't done very well on radio."
Citing a year-old Drudge report, Liddy said the top-rated cable TV host's radio ratings are "in the toilet."
"He really doesn't do radio well at all," the G-Man added.
Friday afternoon, Liddy guested on Al Franken's radio show, where both hosts took shots at O'Reilly. [To the astonishment of fans and foes alike, Franken announced that he was a personal friend of Liddy's, referring to him throughout simply as "G."]
Friday night, O'Reilly fired back, reading a press release about the brouhaha from Westwood, which syndicates both their shows:
"During appearances on two cable news programs yesterday Westwood One personality G. Gordon Liddy made statements about 'The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly' which are totally inaccurate and in no way represent the views of Westwood One.
"Westwood has so advised Liddy and forwarded to him the true facts about the program. In less than two years on-the-air 'The Radio Factor' has become one of the most successful talk shows in the country. In addition to its high ratings and large audience, the program is also a home run with advertisers."
The statement didn't much impress Liddy, who said he stands by his original comments.
For his age, he pretty much *is*. I hope I'm in that good of shape when I'm his age. Hell, I'd like to be in that sort of shape *now*.
But yeah, few people (of any age) can pull off wearing a speedo.
As I recall Nixon can be heard on one of the Watergate tapes referring to Liddy: "He must be some kind of nut." I have enjoyed reading and listening to Liddy occasionally over the years, but apparently he does go over the edge sometimes.
At one point Falwell announced that he was leaving politics: "I'm just going to go back to being a simple country preacher." Evidently he only planned to be a simple country preacher until the heat died down. Within a few months he commenting publicly on political matters again. IMHO this would place him in the liar category.
The radio station started out broadcasting it live, then delayed it by one hour. The ratings were poor, so now the program is delayed until 5 pm with replays at 3 am.
IMO, Liddy AND O'Reilly are best taken in small doses. Egotistical blowhards.
