Great Barracuda Sphyraena barracuda Smaller Great Barracudas can be found in shallow inshore waters over sandy bottoms, frequently in schools. Larger individuals are more often found offshore and are usually solitary. Great Barracudas feed chiefly on fishes and occasionally on squids and shrimps. They are curious fish, and often follow snorkelers or divers. Attacks on humans are rare and probably occur when barracudas try to take speared fish from divers.

Sailfish Istiophorus platypterus The Sailfish has a huge, sail-like dorsal fin that sometimes sticks out of the water as it glides along near the ocean surface. This fin can be as much as two times as high as the Sailfish's body. As a member of the billfish family, the Sailfish has a long snout that extends into an even longer spikelike "bill." Billfishes are strong, elongate, compressed game fishes that will fight for hours if caught by an offshore angler. The Sailfish is shaded dark blue above with rows of pale blue spots. Its belly is almost white.

Yellowfin Tuna Thunnus albacares This is the most valuable of all tunas worldwide. Schools of Yellowfin Tunas are pursued by fleets of fishing boats from around the world. Dolphins have been caught in large numbers with the tunas, and these large, expensive boats have had to modify their nets and fishing methods to fix this problem. Look For: A spindle-shaped fish with high second dorsal and anal fins; small yellow "finlets" along top length. Popular food fish.
