My UberLib SIL was freaking about this the last time I saw her. I told her I would make her a tinfoil hat. It was my only defense because I knew nothing about it.

It sucks not to have an army of FReepers behind you every second! I think I'll have to take my laptop for Easter.

They alleged that Cheney, a former energy company executive, drafted energy policy by consulting industry executives.

Maybe I'm just slow, but I still fail to see why that would be a problem. Is there a law against it?

Gee...more oil and gas drilling and a revived nuclear power program...

Looking pretty wise at present. Let Kerry bang the drum about high gas prices - looks like the evil, nefarious Energy Task Force had some things right.

Liberals have been drooling forever for these documents. They are looking for conspiracies where there aren't any. They are all insane!

What an odd thing to do!

Consult with people who are in the business.

*GASP*

BTW - Who was on the health care committee that Hillary headed with NO legal authority to do so?

Well, if these papers are as 'shocking' as the notes found at the Starbucks the other day, who cares?

The environmental group Sierra Club and Judicial Watch sued in 2001 to find out the names and positions of members of the energy task force led by the vice president that year. They alleged that Cheney, a former energy company executive, drafted energy policy by consulting industry executives.

Who should he have consulted, Algore or the Earth Liberation Front???

But there is more:

A Bush administration plan to promote private prescription drug discount cards under Medicare has been temporarily halted by a federal judge.
The injunction, filed Thursday by U.S. District Court Judge Paul Friedman, will prevent the program from starting for several months. Drugstore chains filed a lawsuit in July, arguing the plan was "clandestine and unlawful" because federal officials don't plan to pay for the discounts. They also argue the plan doesn't clearly outline who must subsidize the lower prices. The ruling suggests that the judge rejected Bush administration arguments that it did not need congressional approval to begin the plan.

Stories like yours is why I'm glad my family is all conservative. It must suck to constantly have to battle the banal arguments of the leftists, even in one's own family!

Actually, I believe he did ask for input from some environmental groups. I don't have any press reports at hand, but I believe the story goes:

Cheney invites Enviros to a seperate meeting to get their input.
Enviros decline.
Enviros and Dems find out he met with industry folks.
Enviros and Dems (with help from the press) cry outrage at not being invited.
VP's office says they were and provides proof of invitation, but only VRWC press covers the news.

So, due to coverage and Dem pressure, conventional wisdom today is that Cheney met only with industry folks in a conspiracy to rape Gaia.

At least that's the Dem mythology.

I have never understood this either. The end result of all of these meetings was a policy proposal, so what? It would be quite clear in the Congressional debate whose interests were not perceived to be adequately represented. I hardly believe that authorship is that evidence.
