US Promises to Punish Those Responsible for Gruesome Iraq Attacks
The top U.S. official in Iraq says Wednesday's gruesome attacks on four American civilians whose burned bodies were put on display in the town of Fallujah will not go unpunished.
"It's going to be deliberate, it will be precise and it will be overwhelming," U.S. General Mark Kimmitt said, speaking to reporters in Baghdad. He warned insurgents in the town of Fallujah to be prepared for U.S. forces to strike back following Wednesday's killing of four American contractors by a frenzied mob that dragged their charred bodies through the streets.
Televised footage of the act has provoked outrage from Americans in the United States and led U.S. administrator in Baghdad Paul Bremer to issue a warning.
"Their deaths will not go unpunished," he promised.
The White House blamed the attacks on supporters of Saddam Hussein. The remains of the four were to be turned over to the U.S. military.
A day after the attack, three American soldiers were injured in another attack near Fallujah, this time when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb.

Saudi rescue vehicles and personnel arrive at the destroyed headquarter building of the general security services in Riyadh, following a car bomb explosion. A statement attributed to an extremist group linked to Al-Qaeda and posted on an Islamist website has claimed responsibility for the blast(AFP/Bilal Qablan)
FOUR people, including two security officers, were killed and 148 injured when a car bomb devastated a building of the Saudi security services in Riyadh overnight, the interior ministry said.
"Up until this statement was written, there were four deaths. Two security men were martyred, in addition to a civilian employee, and an 11-year-old Syrian girl," said a ministry statement read on state television. "The number of wounded reached 148, including 38 expatriates. Of those, 103 have left hospital and 45 remain there, three among whom are in a critical condition," the statement said.
An initial toll from police and hospital sources put the number of dead at eight and wounded at 113.

"BC-Tallest Trees" is the AP "Slug" (story title). This is a notice from AP to broadcasters/newspapers to hold the story until 1p on Wednesday. This usually has to do with exclusivity for the originating media outlet.

Senator's Wife Charged With Assault
Sources: Dispute Started With Garden Mulch
WASHINGTON -- The wife of a U.S. senator is in trouble with the law.
Wanda Baucus is the wife of Democratic Sen. Max Baucus of Montana. She is accused of assaulting a woman Tuesday at Johnson's Garden Center on Van Ness Street, Northwest.
Mrs. Baucus was released Wednesday afternoon after an appearance in D.C. Superior Court. She was officially charged with assault in court.
The incident happened in the parking lot of the garden center.
Sources told News4 that Mrs. Baucus was upset because another customer was getting help with mulch ahead of her.
Sources told News4's Pat Collins that Mrs. Baucus dropped a bag of mulch under the woman's car, then struck the woman in the body and face a number of times.
Collins reported that Mrs. Baucus drove from the scene, and returned a while later with her husband. That is when she talked to police about the incident.
