Illegal immigrants could become legal drivers in Illinois.

On any given day, Juan Francisco Aparicio will drive his children to the doctor's office, his wife to the grocery and himself to work. Yet, he doesn't have a drivers license.

He can't apply for one because he doesn't have a Social Security card, which he can't get because he is not a legal resident. He moved to Illinois seven years ago from Sacatecas, Mexico, and, like hundreds of thousands of undocumented workers who lack a license, drives a car anyway. Every day.

And this is the crux of the problem. Not that illegals want to work, or drive, but that they're a HUGE drain on socialist services programs.

For me, the crux of the problem is the illegality of it and what it's spawned. The Feds are not enforcing immigration law, the illegals have no respect for our laws or sovereignty, a lot of American employers have no respect for our laws either and they don't mind abusing the illegals they hire. This has left me disgusted with the whole sorry lot of them.

They're also rubbing sh#t in the faces of every person who comes here legally. The whole kit and kaboodle reeks to high heaven.

Similar legislation in Missouri, which has about 25,000 to 50,000 undocumented immigrants according to some estimates, failed to thrive in recent years. The issue continues to be a priority for some state lawmakers, but no formal proposal has been introduced this session.

I guess this is the good news of the article.

Pedro, who works with Aparicio at the same nursery, said many people like himself drive constantly, though they don't have a license.

"What choice do people have? It's something we have to do," he said through a translator.

Using this logic, everyone who has had their license suspended or revoked for whatever reason should demand it back, after all, they have the same needs as these illegals.

Unfortunately, it's also the fastest way between the land of taxes and fraud and the Show-Me State. Even worse, bad ideas have this nasty tendency to spread.

Good point.

These illegals have been well-schooled in the art of victimization.

I agree with you. I certainly don't want illegals getting licenses in Illinois or any other state. That means they will be driving legally in my state.

As of now, this would have a harder time passing in Missouri than Illinois just by the fact that there is no Chicago here.

Also, I doubt any of those migrants make enough money to afford car insurance at the rates they'll get.

You make many good points in your post, Newbie.

This link backs up what you say.

Link to FAIR's data on immigrants and sky-rocketing medical cost

BTW. Welcome aboard.

The people that we're speaking of drive their vehicles anyway," Acevedo said. "You have people who now need to go and take a driving test. They have to know the rules of the road. They have to have insurance."

so, if they fail the test, they will, of course, stop driving until they take it again.....

I wonder if the INS could subpena the drivers license applications...

It only hurts America's system of government to exclude so many millions of workers. To expand NAFTA, the traditional "rule-of-law" for some issues like this may need to change.

This is a country, not an economy.

I don't know why these illegals follow any of our laws. They started breaking laws as soon as they broke into our country.

They do what they need to for survival, but they are, by and large, hardworking, law-abiding people who would much prefer to be, as much as they can, living inside the law," Same coudl be said for martha stewart and the ENRON executives. They didnt want to break PESKY LAWS THAT GOT IN THE WAY.

Folks, this is a bad bad idea. It basically means that we really dont *have* an immigration law; instead we have "come in, violate laws, we wont enforce them and we will pretend the law doesnt exist when it comes to handing ou t Govt goodies." Message: Law abiders are suckers.

It will invite further massive fraud btw.

Better solution for Illinois: Deport the Illegals.
