THE Pope has been told to wear a bulletproof vest during next weeks Easter celebrations.
The CIA and European security chiefs warned the Vatican of a concrete threat against him.
He was also advised to limit his outdoor appearances during Holy Week.
Italian MEP Mario Borghezio said there were several threats from some extreme Muslims.
The Popes spokesman played down the threats.

They've already tried.
Ramzi Yousuf (sp?) was behind a plot to kill the Pope when he visted the Philipines. The perps were intending to dress in clerical garb in order to both get near the Pope and to hide their explosive cargo.
The plot was discovered when either a fire or small explosion occured in the bomb factory and the perps fled. When the police and fire department arrived at the scene they found cassocks, bibles and crucifixes as well as explosives.
Yousuf was later detained in Pakistan.

The Swiss Guard are a very professional and effective security force. I've no doubt that they can protect the Pope as well as the Secret Service has protected the president.

Every time Israel strikes back at Hamas after an attack, the islamists always say "You have opened the gates of Hell!"
I daresay that if the Pope were killed by Islamists, the gates would indeed be opened. That would be a declaration of war on a Biblical scale.

I know that, but not again, not now.

I know that, but not again, not now. The pope kissed their book. He embraced Arafat. They see him as weak.
Of course they would dare.

The jihadists believe the predictions of Mohammed in the Hadith that the Muslims will conquer Rome.

Should they dare such a thing, it would be hard for me to pray for their souls as I would be baying for their blood (gladly go seeking it too, if it were possible). Lord help me to resist such thoughts and urges.

Judging by current cultural trends...they might.
Apparently there is a lot of chatter in the mystical Nostradamus community about a Middle Eastern warlord who will invade Europe. That documentary film narrated by Orson Welles (The Man Who Saw Tomorrow ?) elaborated on this theme.
Among the more extreme Muslims, they view the West in medieval terms (i.e., in the "Crusades" mythos).

I pray that it will never happen but "If the Pope is a victim of islamic terrorism" there will be lots of screaming but no physical action taken by anyone.
There is no organized force that will step up to the table to actually take physical action. He is not protected under any American, Italaian, or Hispanic military forces.
