Local abortion lawsuit may change policies at clinics
ABC13 Eyewitness News
(3/31/04 - HOUSTON) A lawsuit that could bring some big policy changes to abortion clinics across the nation will soon go to trial in Houston.
Cherise Hughes is now a mother of two. She admits to using a fake ID to get an abortion when she was just 17. She is now suing the clinic that performed it, claiming no-one questioned her age beyond taking a look at that fake ID.
"I was scared and not thinking straight and I wish I would have had someone to have that concern to contact my family. Things would have probably been a lot different," said plaintiff Cherise Hughes.
The attorney representing the clinic says its doctors have no legal duty to investigate a patient's age, and often have to rely on people's credibility. Right to life groups say this case proves the law governing abortion clinics is weak.

Why should abortion clinics be treated any differently than McDonalds, when it comes to lawsuits?

I think the AG of all the states should sue the "big abortion" industry.
Maybe they will agree to "voluntary" restrictions and huge payouts
and
Fund "Truth of the industry" media campaigns

McDonalds buys the pieces of dead animals and sells them to people. Abortion clinic kill babies and sell the parts. The kid wanted to get rid of her baby, the abortion clicnic provided the means.
Now the kid found out that the pieces of her baby were sold and she wants some of the money.

"Now the kid found out that the pieces of her baby were sold and she wants some of the money." It couldn't possibly be remorse....it must be for the money.
Odd that your mind went there first. I wonder why.

Here, anyone dealing with a need to verify age, must use due diligence. That means look at them, the ID and the ID user, very carefully and be sure the person on the ID is the person in front of you and that the ID does not in any way look false. When in doubt, do not do business with someone you suspect may be a minor.

You may be speaking in sarcasm, but, that is not a bad idea.

The case should be thrown out on the ground that you can't sue for damages when you commit a crime.
Using a fake ID to obtain something and then later regretting it does not give you the right to sue.

If she had used a fake ID to buy cigarettes I'm willing to bet that she could sue and win.
But hey! This is only a baby.

"What damages does the girl claim?" I would assume she is claiming that her baby was killed and she was too young and confused to resist the killers' desire to kill babies.

Get off your compassionate horse. If it was sincere remorse, the gal would be talking with Christ, not an attorney.

"Get off your compassionate horse" How is it, exactly, that you know this girl is not talking with Christ?
Also; from where do you get the moral authority to deign this "gal" insincere, & unworthy of compassion?

I'll bet both legs that Christ didn't tell her to go to an attorney.

"Christ didn't tell her to go to an attorney" He sent an angel to speak with the mother of His only son.
You begrudge this woman that He didn't speak to her directly.
