It's funny. My middle kid chose the Marines which was not a real surprise, he is also a bull rider, Michael chooses the Army which is no surprise since he lives and breaths computers and they dazzled him with the technology he could train on..

I have a nephew on my wife's side that graduated High School this year. He wants to be a diesel mechanic and actully came to Nashville to check out one of the best mechanic schools in the country.
He was all for it and put down a deposit. Then an Army recruiter came to his school and he talked to him. Instead of spending money going to the school in Nashville he was convinced he can be paid to learn the same job in the Army.
His parents, idiot Democrats, had a fit. But he prevailed and will be heading off to boot camp in August. His mother and father are SO stupid (my wife's older brother and his horribly hick wife...I could write a book on their stupidity) that they think he can be sent to WAR immediately.

You be sure to tell us once they're inducted.
We'll need to put them on the prayer list here.

I will. He has to pass a pulmonary function test because of asthma but it is mild so I don't think there will be a problem.

neither action will be good for the ongoing effort to win over the hearts and minds of Iraqis. You sound exactly like LBJ's advisor. And you are exactly as wrong as he was.

(The two keys to character: 1) Learn how to keep a secret. 2) ...)
Can't we come up with a better defense for these road side bombs? These things are the cause for almost all of our casualties. These things are the only effective way of fighting these guys have against our soldiers. Even their ambushes with RPG's and small arms fire are usually unsuccessful. We need a way to defend against these IED's. We should be working on better defenses against these things right now. I know we can't develop something fast enough to help the guys in Iraq all that much, but we should learn from this war. We should never again lose so many men to road side bombs in future wars. I think we will learn, and I think their are a lot of things we could do to make these bombs ineffective. What do you guys think?
I also believe our CIA guys should assassinating Iraqis who could possibly cause trouble in the future. Like the guys celebrating after these attacks. I know it would look bad if we just went in there and machine gunned them down, but that's not our only choices. Our CIA and Special Op guys could kill them at a later time without anyone knowing we were responsible. The Iraqis in these areas would start learning what happens to people when they celebrate these things or do things unfriendly toward Americans. Any Iraqi who is celebrating after an attack on U.S. or Coalition troops isn't ever going to add anything positive toward Iraq's future and they shouldn't be a part of Iraq's Society. Isn't it a crime when they do they this? When they interfere with the aftermath of an attack and do these horrible things shouldn't the U.S. Military or the Iraqi police be able to arrest them?
I do think we need to get a hell of a lot tougher over there. We don't need to go overboard but we do need to get a lot tougher. We need our CIA and Special Op guys making assassinations. I guess this could be going on since I wouldn't know if it was. I strongly believe the people who celebrate when our soldiers are killed should be killed themselves. Not only for revenge, which for some reason you can't say you want these days, but also because no good can every come from those particular Iraqis.

Registering the citizens to vote is the biggest problem. They have no real record keeping and it is going to take time to hold elections. It is not the US that is preventing elections,it's the reality of the time it will take to get it done fairly.

Enjoy isn't the word! ESTATIC is more like it...he's from a dinky town 45 miles East of Little Rock called Hazen where my wife grew up. Population: 1,100 if you count the squirrels.
I'll be at his graduation this May. I was at his much older sister's graduation also. She was our flower girl at our wedding, age 7, when he was a baby and his other sister had yet to be born. She's a complete idiot, sad to say and will soon be 16.

God will be with him I'm sure;
we'll surely pray for him here.
I trust your other two are daughters?

Yeah, and wouldn't THAT solve all our problems in Iraq. We did something stupid like that and the whole region would convulse. I give our leadership credit for being smarter than that.

Depends on his duty station it is a very good possibilty that he could be sent over after AIT. If the unit is scheduled for rotation then he would have to go. Where is he going for boot and where is is headed afterwards do you know?
