I think the point is that if the market is teetering something could push it in either direction, with just a nudge. The market is very susceptible to rumors and psychology. If it wouldn't be, we would never had the dot com bubble -- anyone with two braincells could see that those were not real companies. Same can be true in the other direction. All they have to do is persuade Greenspan to raise interest rates say 0.5%, have Soros start selling, play up potential terrorist attacks, and you are going to have a very nervous market.
A 20% drop in October just may scare enough people to decide they "want a change" and vote for Kerry.

John Kerry's picture on a milk carton?
To: singfreedom
Maybe the "Ultrabitch" thinks that if she signs on as VP, that would tip the election.Only if Kerry gets "86'ed" by taking a short plane right into the side of a mountain.

My guess is Nader. Nader runs a full bore I HATE BUSH campaign that draws all the apathetic leftist tin foil hat crowd to get involved in this election. On the Friday before the election Nader calls a big press conference and announces he is dropping out and endorses Kerry. The DNC directed "News Media" then spends the last 4 days leading up to the election screaming how Nader's withdrawal "dooms" Bush. Thus Nader redeems himself with the wacko left for "throwing" the 2000 election to Bush.
Will it work? I don't know but it is just the sort of sleazy tactic the Moveon.org-DNC leadership would dream up.

"This knot needs no definition. It is made with eight or nine turns and not thirteen as is often superstitiously suggested."

Typical of other references such as the following:
1119. THE HANGMAN'S KNOT. This is the knot generally used for the purpose suggested by the name, because it may be counted on to draw up smoothly and not let go. ... It is sometimes contended that there should be nine turns to the NOOSE, so that ``even if a man has has many lives as a cat, there shall be a full turn for each one of them,'' and I have heard thirteen turns urged as the proper number on the assumption that there is some connection between bad luck and being hanged. However, I learned the knot ... with only eight turns, and I have found the preponderance of authority in favor of eight turns only.

She must already be thinking about her Halloween costume.
Or maybe she has an insight into what will happen in New York during the convention.

Got it. She's going to announce that she's the Great Pumpkin, demand worship, hand out candy, and that for years she was the voice behind Charlie Brown's teacher.

I agree. Not only is it a threat, it's also a lifeline to keep the rats from jumping ship. The Clinton vipers should have been investigated by Ashcroft. I don't think they've faced a serious investigation yet on any serious matter. Contrary to the liberal spin, Starr held back his punches.
