Michael Scarpittiaka Tre Arrow

VICTORIA, British Columbia -- Radical environmentalist Tre Arrow, arrested here on charges of shoplifting, will fight deportation to the United States where he is wanted on charges of firebombing logging and cement trucks, Arrow's attorney said Monday.

Arrow, born Michael Scarpitti, appeared Monday in a Canadian court for a status hearing on charges of theft, assault and obstruction. He was arrested in Victoria on March 13 for allegedly attempting to steal some bolt cutters.

He has also been charged with providing false information to immigration officers, after telling them his name was Joshua Murray.

It was only when his fingerprints were checked that authorities realized he was an American fugitive.

Arrow will be arraigned April 20. Until then, he will remain in a Canadian jail, where he has gone on a hunger strike.

Outside court Monday, a statement read on Scarpitti's behalf gave two reasons for the hunger strike: "To protest this incarceration and the lack of justice within the U.S. judicial system and secondly, as a token of solidarity with all of those suffering around the world as a result of corporate agendas which leave in their wake poison water, contaminated air and lack of adequate food."

Arrow's lawyer, Tim Russell, said his client plans to oppose deportation. Russell said he has not seen any paperwork indicating the United States will request Arrow's extradition.

"I'm told the Department of Justice here won't disclose any extradition proceedings that have not commenced," Russell said.

But FBI special agent Jane Brillhart said from Portland, Ore., that American officials were working with Canadian authorities to "get him back here as soon as possible."

Canadian Customs and Immigration spokesman Jim Redmond confirmed Arrow will be handed over to immigration authorities only at the conclusion of Canadian criminal court proceedings.

Immigration authorities then plan an investigation into Arrow's status in Canada.

Arrow was put on the FBI's most-wanted list after his disappearance two years ago. He has been connected to the Earth Liberation Front, a shadowy group that has claimed responsibility for dozens of environmentally-motivated crimes over the past several years.

He was among four activists charged with setting logging trucks on fire on June 1, 2001, to protest logging on the slopes of Mount Hood. Three other suspects were captured after one of them told a girlfriend about the crime, according to arrest papers.

Arrow also is accused of taking part in an April 15, 2001, arson attack that damaged three cement trucks at Ross Island Sand & Gravel in Portland, Ore.

Arrow first gained notoriety in July 2000 when he scaled a U.S. Forest Service building in downtown Portland and lived on a ledge for 11 days to protest timber policies.

The elfers are not having a whole lot of luck lately.

That Cotrell guy in SoCal, the CalTech grad student, that just got busted for setting a SUV dealership in West Covina on fire, and now Arrow.

Lemme have 5 minutes with this little SOB...no better yet lets get all his victums together and I'll show them how to dole out the punishment for these turds.

Tie him buck nekked to a tree during the worst of the black fly season around here and then sit down to enjoy the show while we have a few refreshments.

Obviously he's called "arrow" for some reason other than being sharp.

"...he has gone on a hunger strike."

Hopefully he'll starve. Just like good old Bobby Sands.

IMO, There is no punishment strong enough for these creeps. They are scum. Trust fund idiots. No jobs, no brains, no idea of what they are destroying. whacked out on God knows what kinds of drugs. As if the chemicals left over from Meth production don't pollute....Give me a break. Slice little slivers of flech from him each and every minute of the day until he dies.

He wanted bolt cutters? I saw a couple of them in a yard sale for five bucks apiece. Oh, but I guess it's too late for that now.
Isn't he one of those immigrants who came to America for a better life and is only doing jobs that real Americans don't want to do?

"Slice little slivers of flech from him each and every minute of the day until he dies."

Wow, that's rough. I hope nobody scolds you (I won't, these creeps are far more dangerous than they're given credit for) because I said on one of these threads that they should be executed, and someone said it was extreme of me to say that.

But, shhhhhh, we don't want the Canadians to know our evil plans, not until we get the little bugger back.

He is on a "hunger strike" in a Canadian jail to protest "the lack of justice within the U.S. judicial system".

Whatever.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I wonder if he had anything to do with the monkey-wrenching that happened at the beginning of March on southern Vancouver Island.

Over $50,000 damage to various grapples, yarders, and other logging equipment on a cutblock.

The businesses that have been getting vandalized and/or burned have been sick of these skunks for awhile. When Klinton was in power, law enforcement was not allowed to do their job and these scum-buckets continued to operate. That's not the case anymore.
