BUSH, CHENEY TO GIVE 9/11 EVIDENCE
sky news ^

Posted on 03/30/2004 7:35:14 AM PST by maquiladora

US President George, vice president Dick Cheney and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice have offered to give evidence to the independent inquiry into the September 11 terror attacks.

The White House had previously refused to allow Ms Rice to testify before the committee.

Ms Rice will give evidence under oath but Mr Bush and Mr Cheney will not.

However, the White House says the offer will only stand if the move does not set a precedent and is seeking a written assurance.

This has been posted but this report is wrong.

Rice has testified before in private for 4 hours,unsworn.The agreement is that Congress will not consider this precedent and now Rice may testify in public under oath.The President and VP were always going to testify in private,but not to the full commission.Now the full commission will hear them privately.

Still a cave -- and another missed opportunity to put Clarke in his place.

Wouldn't testimony by the chief executive sworn under oath be an ugly union of church and state?

Dems only cry about it when it's PC I guess.

What a bogus headline from Sky News. That they are "giving evidence" implies that they were withholding "evidence".

Idiots = Sky News...

Massive blunder. Dems will make a show of this. No evidence gathered, only some loud mouth dem getting his air time by trying to make Bush and company look bad. Big blunder. No reason to appear.

Well, in an effort to put the best possible spin on this, we could say that at the least, this will cut Richard Ben-Vineste's questioning time in half, as he will no longer have to rant on and on that Condi won't appear.

But I agree: it's a complete and total cave.
