The Second guards the rest. My out of state relatives didn't seem to understand that. I wasn't as concise as this author.

I think the gun owners are starting to falter this election. They're starting to dislike Bush more than they should hate Kerry.

He's a professional, a science fiction author. All of his "North American/Solar Confederacy" books are excellent. My favorite is "The Nagasaki Vector" which is hilarious.

Careful, L. Neil just might make a libertarian out of you. ;-)
For political writings, he's a knock out. If you want to know how a libertarianized society would handle some of the weirded out scenarios the detractors throw at them, his books expose the detractors hypocrisy and dishonesty almost flawlessly. His Henry Martin books are wonderful space opera. If you are looking for pure poetry however, stick to Shakespear, Chaucer, and Poe.

Response to Neil Smith:
Do you agree that certain people, such as convicted felons and involuntarily committed sociopaths, should not have the right to possess firearms? If so, how can you demonstrate that you are not in fact such a person without showing identification?
I understand the concept of not punishing the innocent with the guilty, but I also understand the need to ensure that the guilty receive the punishment they deserve. Civil rights are not absolute - they may be taken away by a court of law. Otherwise, putting someone in prison would violate his rights to liberty and pursuit of happiness.

"If a politician isn't perfectly comfortable with the idea of his average constituent, any man, woman, or responsible child, walking into a hardware store and paying cash -- for any rifle, shotgun, handgun, machinegun, anything -- without producing ID or signing one scrap of paper, he isn't your friend no matter what he tells you. "That goes for the govm't employees that lobby against Freedom also.

This thoughtful article covers well all of the important points, but what does the author have against Prussians?
