The city of Irving is seeing a burst of activity from the financial-services sector, with four projects in the works that could add several thousand new jobs and close to 1 million square feet of office space.
Seattle-based Washington Mutual Inc. and New York-based Citigroup Inc. are both planning expansions that would create a total of at least 1,300 new jobs over the next several years. Irving also is a finalist in California-based Ameriquest's hunt for a regional center that could add about 1,400 jobs. In addition, the city is in the running for a "major" relocation from another California-based financial services firm, according to John Bonnot, director of economic development for the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce. This is on top of the 300 jobs Wells Fargo & Co. will bring to Irving in June, with its 101,200-square-foot lease at Royal Tech 17 off LBJ Freeway near Belt Line Road.
