The Internet has empowered individuals everywhere to assume control of their destinies, understand the freedoms and rights available to Westerners, and join together en masse to fight for greater liberties. In a sense, the Internet has served the unifying and justice-seeking role that the U.N. claims for itself, but never fulfills, being too busy coddling diplomats and manufacturing red tape.
It would be a huge mistake to surrender such a beneficial democratizing tool to a body that includes the likes of thought-policing countries like China and North Korea......

Instead of free speech being controlled by those with money, it'll be controlled by a bunch of communists and dictators. Given who is on the human rights commission now, they'll probably put China, North Korea and Cuba on the Internet commission, and probably get Saddam out of jail so he can chair it.
I think I'll take the Internet with its current problems.

You Internet are mine.
it does lend valid meaning to the dreaded 'blue screen.'
just what the world needs a bunch of a$$hats that don't know where to find the power button directing the net.

The UN having control over the internet would be a sign of globalism for the Conspiracy Theorists, and it'd be one of the things that actually affect a majority of people, not just a few of us.
Bad move, definitely.

Cyberspace is NOT a UN charter member! To China and to the even pettier dictatorships that comprise the voting majority of the UN client-states, the mouse that roars must be silenced.
Okay, a bit extreme, let's give them the old one and create a new one. And laugh at the antiquity of their domains.
