Lula, Facing Drop in Polls, Vows to Maintain Policies (Update3) March 29 (Bloomberg) -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, facing a drop in approval ratings for failing to revive economic growth, said he will stick with his policies of fighting inflation and controlling spending in a bid to keep South America's largest economy from defaulting on its debts.

Based on the model of the career of the typical socialist politician, his popularity will continue to fall as the economy collapses at which point he will attempt to suspend elections and civil rights.
