This is a great example of (awful) establishment Catholic thought. His effort to equate the West and Islam is exactly what the American bishops were up to in the 80's when they supported the nuclear freeze and regularly equated the US and USSR. Yuck.

Ms. Fallaci is alot closer to the truth than the naivete espoused by Mr. Fredericks. Islam will need to be forced to go through its reformation just as Christianity did.

Fr. James L. Fredericks teaches theology at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. He is the author of the forthcoming book A New Solidarity: Doing Christian Theology in Dialogue with Buddhists, published by Orbis Books.

Fr. Fredericks lives in the double cushy world of academia and rectory life. Ms. Fallaci has been out in the Muslim world. She's more in tune with the reality of the situation.

Good Italian Catholics like Fallaci, of course, were saying similar things about Jews when Il Duce was keeping the trains running on time.

Oriana Fallaci fought with the resistance.

How can one "build new forms of social and religious solidarity" with a religious/political system which by its very definition has the goal of murdering, enslaving or converting you? This reads more like propaganda one would expect from CAIR.

Christians, therefore, must find ways of standing in solidarity with Muslims as they address the sizable challenges that confront them.

O.K -- Show me the Muslims in authority who condemn the slashing of flight attendants' throats, strapping dynamite to retarded 14 years olds, blowing up busses and pizzerias; introduce me to the Muslims who defend Israel's right to exist and those who extoll religious tolerance, and the Muslims who will help us root out and kill the murderous vermin who have attacked our people -- then, I'm sure we will have lots to talk about.

While I don't believe that McDonald's and Starbuck's represent the same quality of threat to the Muslims that 9/11 did to the people in the WTC, I would be happy to discuss their concerns with them.

This was either written by several different people, or the writer has a split personality.
In any case, it's sometimes correct, and then incorrect.

I wouldn't know where to begin..........

and of course, our beloved Ms. Coulter!

Last time I checked, it was "Miss," not "Ms."

And I, for one, am sure glad it is!

I will stop questioning and demonizing Islam when their clerics stop calling Christians and Jews "dogs and pigs" and the Saudi goverment decriminalizes conversions to Christianity and protects religious freedom. That won't happen, so I will keep on pointing out the bare fact: Mohammed was a pedohiple and a massmurderer.
