WASHINGTON, March 28 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Hundreds of grassroots leaders representing National People's Action (NPA) are paying a visit to the home of President Bush's Senior Policy Advisor Karl Rove on Sunday, March 28, because he refused to meet with them to discuss the rights of immigrant youth.

NPA and immigrant rights' leaders want the White House to support the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act). It would grant access to instate tuition for children of immigrants whose families have been in the county at least five years and paid taxes for three. The DREAM Act has 62 co-sponsors and the White House is standing in the way of it being brought to a vote this year.

NPA Leaders plan to arrive at Rove's house, [address removed by mod] around 4 p.m. "We paid our way to come to Washington, D.C., to talk to Rove, and he wouldn't listen," said Tomasa Fonseca, an educator from Marshalltown, Iowa. "So we came to his house to ask him to support the dreams of our youth."

It is estimated that 50,000 to 65,000 undocumented students graduate from high school in the United States each year. Upon graduation these youth cannot work legally, nor can they qualify for in-state tuition at universities because they aren't considered residents.

Recently, the Bush administration came out in support of a guest worker plan, which would allow immigrant workers temporary residency for a maximum of six years. NPA leaders believe that Bush's plan will divide hard working immigrant families. The DREAM Act, on the other hand, is an example of positive immigration reform that would give immigrant youth the opportunity to realize the American Dream by becoming workers, tax payers and positive community leaders.

"We are here today to send a strong message to the Bush administration," said Emira Palacios, NPA Co-Chairperson. "We are telling them that if they want the Hispanic vote, they must give us the DREAM Act."

National People's Action is a 33-year-old multi-racial/ethnic, inter-generational non-partisan coalition of hundreds of local community organizations that volunteer their time to make communities throughout the United States safer, healthier and more stable environments.

There is no reason for a non-citizen of the United States to pay less for a college education over here than a citizen of the United States would pay. Colleges all over the country are supported to some extent with federal tax dollars that pay for research projects in the grad programs. If anything, these people should pay out-of-state tuition plus an out-of-country tuition.

Ready for a Repeat
Bill

When I applied to William & Mary, I would have had to pay 3 times the in state tuition.

I seriously hope Rove or any Bush advisor has no intention of listening much less taking action with the group.

Kerry specifically support this on his web site. This is BS. There is ALREADY rolling amnesty for ANYONE who can hide in the USA for 10 years we have had it since the 60's when it was 6 years.

In short, they are posing for the cameras. More leftist liars.

If they're enrolled in school, they're obviously not undocumented. Why not say what they really are, ILLEGAL ALIENS.

"We are telling them that if they want the Hispanic vote, they must give us the DREAM Act."

I guess if you reside here illegally, it should be no surprise that you're voting here illegally also (not that you'd vote for a Republican anyway!).

and just how did it come to be that the Congress mandated that these same people be educated at taxpayer expense in our public schools? OUr county's illegal immigrant population and school budget have done nothing but balloon because of this nice little perk for illegals. If I send my kid to school in any other state, I have to pay a premium, I have no idea why all these "do-gooders" think that illegals should be any different.

We should start by undoing the damage to our local public schools, not exacerbate the problem by similarly strangling the states' university systems.
