WALLACE: Now, Clarke took personal responsibility and apologized to the families and the victims of that terrible day. I know as secretary of defense that you're responsible for external threats, not an attack within the United States. But I wonder, do you think it would be appropriate for someone in the administration, from the president on down, to consider making a similar statement to the families?

"And he compared it to attacking Mexico after the Japanese hit Pearl Harbor."
No...more like attacking Germany after we were hit by Japan. Mexico was never an ally of Japan...but like Germany, Iraq was still a big part of the threat equation.

Clarke is a fool. This is man who was well aware of the possible connections bewteen Iraq and the first WTC attack in 1993. He is also the man who gave Cohen and Clinton the information that Al-Shifa was not only an OBL investment interest, but was also tied to Iraq with its supposed VX production. To take a step even further, Clarke was one of those who believed that the OKC bombing did have Mid-East fingerprints on it...including perhaps, Iraq. And now, he's going to chastise this president for wanting to know if there was any connection to Iraq and 9/11, when he has been making similar connections for years? Please. Something is wrong with this guy.

Something is wrong with this guyYes there is something wrong with him. He is one man, with one opinion, coming out of an administration that regardless of rhetoric, did not make significant moves to protect this country or our interests from terrorism.
There is no more evidence of this one man's lack of vision than his opinion that Iraq was somehow not part of the terrorism equation. Clarke is absolutely an idiot not to recognize the merit of the President's belief that ultimately democracy and freedom are the best most effective weapons against terrorism.
The more this sad excuse for a patriot is given time, the more I realize that the best attack on him is to show him for what he is...a bureaucratic relic without the capacity to formulate a policy fit for the current world.

I haven't been watching FNS a lot since Tony Snow left, but I did this morning. (Miss Rumsfield? Not on a bet!) It only reinforced my opinion that it's gone downhill since Snow left. Nevertheless, it's always nice to watch Rumsfield make hash of people like the geeky, smirky Wallace. Rumsfield wasn't rude. He just made it obvious--with brilliance and humor--what the differences are between the left and the conservatives.
Wallace, alas, is no Snow. Not even close.

Dang it! One doesn't "apologize" for something unless they're at fault. If Dick Clarke wants to apologize for his own incompetence when he as in anti-terror in the Clinton Administration, fine, let him apologize for his malfeasance. What's really at the center of a question like this one that Chris Wallace asked is the assumption that we, the United States, our government, was at fault for the attacks of 9/11. Rumsfeld was trying to be diplomatic, but he should have reamed Chris Wallace for his "we all need a national group hug" mentality. What a moron!
WALLACE: I just want to press this a little bit more to ask you, though, I think what the families said they liked so much, what they were gratified to hear from Clarke, was a statement not just of sorrow but of personal responsibility.
And another thing!....How the h*** does Chris Wallace know what the victims' families were thinking? How does he know these people were "gratified" to hear Dick Clarke blubber a personal apology? What the heck is Chris Wallace drinking? The koolaid of the anti-war left, apparently. It's clear that there is a small group of 9/11 families who have become professional victims, and frankly, while I grieve for their loss, I'm getting sick of their act. We can see through their self-indulgent "grief," why can't Chris Wallace? (It must be a genetic flaw.)

Correct. To psychoanalyze the guy a bit, I suspect he wakes up with night terrors and is crushed by a weight of guilt for having worked for an Administration for four years, and was never personally successful in getting that Adminisration to focus on the growing threat of terror. He has every reason to apologize for 9/11. He could have actually done something to prevent it, but didn't.

I think WJBC has been reading your posts, Ragtime Cowgirl. In a newsclip from the dem-fest the other day he used the term 'adults in charge'.......and, of course, followed it with some disparaging comment.
Sounded like it was getting to him! LOL!
