Arab men with weapons, maps, Mexican driver's licenses, apprehended attempting to enter U.S.
Rick Roberts Radio Show AM760 KFMB, San Diego | March 26, 2004 | Rick Roberts Show caller

Posted on 03/28/2004 10:55:28 AM PST by John Jorsett

I heard this on Friday and have been waiting to see if it got picked up anywhere. So far, total silence in the news media. A caller to the Rick Roberts show by the name of Sean claimed to be a firefighter in San Diego County. He said he gets email alerts directed to emergency service and law enforcement personnel (he wouldn't say who sends them, but the Department of Homeland Security would seem to be a logical source), and that he had just received one that three men of Arab descent had been apprehended at the San Ysidro (a town immediately South of San Diego) border crossing. The men had Mexican driver's licenses, had weapons secreted in the side panels of their car(s) (I couldn't quite tell if he used the plural or not), and had detailed maps of Camp Pendleton Marine Base, Sea World, San Onofre nuclear power plant, and Lindberg Field (San Diego's airport), with "obvious marks on the map where explosives could be placed." The men were crossing at the border checkpoint as though they were visitors. Sean said he had received the email alert a couple of days before calling.

This was just some person calling in to a radio show, and so it could be a hoax or false alarm. I don't see why the media would suppress it (and they must have sources who'd forward them alerts like this), so I'm not sure what to make of this. Thought I'd get it out there, though, just in case anyone is interested.

After doing some checking, I'd say that there is a 99.9% chance that this is a hoax.

Guess they heard about President Bush's proposed illegal-alien "guest worker" program and jumped the gun.

Why don't you send this to Roger Hedgecock - he knows a lot of people and I bet he can find out the truth of this.

What said hoax to me was the alleged guns found in the car. This would NOT be how they would get guns into the USA, too risky. The guns would already be purchased ahead of time, and would be picked up at the local mosque.

Lesson Number One in Hoax Email Detection: If a single source isn't clearly identified, and if there is a "trail" of people and organizations and methods required to deliver the message...then it is ALWAYS a hoax.

Hamas threatened the President Bush and the citizens of the United States

be aware they are coming

Hamas has allies south of our border as well. Be alert.

"We have Nicaragua, soon we will have El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Mexico. One day, tomorrow or five years or fifteen years from now, we're going to take 5 to 10 million Mexicans and they are going into Dallas, into El Paso, into Houston, into New Mexico, into San Diego, and each one will have embedded in his mind the idea of killing ten Americans."

--Thomas Borge, Nicaragua Interior Minister as quoted in the Washington Times, March 27, 1985

They may well have been concerned about both the very real possibility of being crime or shakedown victims in Mexico, or have had concern about betrayal by their Mexican associates. Better safe than sorry.

Likewise, if smart, they may well have made such preparations in the US, but knowing that those friendly toward them are subject to surveilance and penetration, may have decided to use that resource as a fallback plan. If they observed a number of vehicles going through the border checkpoint after a minimal or cursory inspection, they may have decided to chance it, especially if the weapons were of better capability than they expected to be in the US waiting for them [full-auto AKs and Uzis from Mexico, versus semiautos in the US, for example]

There's been at least one full-time experienced Chechnyan terrorist from Arizona apprehended in Mexico with weapons and grenades, almost certainly not planning on using them on Mexicans. Delivering them to a safehouse for his pals down that way, perhaps?

I'm checking with someone at Huachucha who's interest is job-related. He wasn't aware of either the report or anything behind it, but he's checking very carefully, upset that something might have slipped past his professional radar. So to speak.

If I hear anything back from him either way, I'll let you know.

If you're saying that I'm the hoaxer and that I didn't really hear it, I have an MP3 recording of it. I can put it on a server and let you and anyone else interested listen for yourself. If you're saying that the "caller" was a hoaxer, I noted that his story was unconfirmed and therefore suspect in my initial posting.

The call into the show or the info?

There are many LE alerts generated by local agencies in addition to the Feds. The alerts can be generated by info from other agencies, interrogation, evidence, etc.

Who can remember those two MEs who, not long after 9/11, were yanking on the chain of the Georgia waitress, who called law enforcement to report that she overheard these guys talking about blowing something up and that they were driving down to Florida to do it?

They caught the guys at a tollbooth in Florida. Turned out they were clean and that they were actually enroute to some hospital job in Miami. Of course they played the race card

Just imagine the number of alerts this (eventually bogus) situation generated.

Many pan out, many do not.

The info.

There were no such arrests at the San Yisdro Port of Entry that match the caller’s description, during the time frame given by the caller.
