FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. - Authorities are investigating a report that a manager of a fast-food restaurant conducted a strip search of a teenage female customer. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said an unidentified caller pretending to be a police officer directed the 39-year-old manager of a Taco Bell restaurant to conduct the search Monday after giving a general description of a theft suspect.
The girl, a 17-year-old high school student, was taken to a back room. There, she was strip-searched, cavity-searched and forced to do jumping jacks by the manager, who reportedly was acting on directions from the caller, authorities said.
The girl's parents notified sheriff's deputies. Sheriff Arpaio said no arrests have been made in the case. But similar calls have been made in several other states, including Alaska, Utah, Ohio and Massachusetts, said the sheriff, who said he's sending a letter to Phoenix-area restaurants warning employees of the fraud.
I suspect most of the managers are being allowed to escape prosecution in much the same way as one would expect. Stupidly and rape are not de facto crimes when the law is virtually never enforced. If it was enforced it might result in teachers, soldiers, jail guards, etc. going to prison and a useful return on the tax dollar. The average MP in Iraq would rather lose his rifle than his rubber gloves. It is his comfort blanket and badge of belonging. The average female soldier in Iraq will never use her rifle and might as well be given the job of guarding the rubber gloves until she can get a job in a fast food retaurant in Kansas.
It takes very little effort to persuade many males to sexually abuse people. The cavity search thing is therefore not really surprising. The criminal probably knew his psychology well enough to predict what he might reasonably expect to engineer.
Nor is it surpring that few (if any) of the actors will go to prison. If it turns out that the culprit is a jail guard I would not expect a criminal profiler to be called to estimate the damage to any females, juveniles etc. who might have crossed his path by way of his other professional interests.
