As far as I know a .50 has never been used in a crime. Hauling 20 to 50 pounds of steel around isn't the smartest thing a criminal could do if escape is any consideration at all.
I saw something about the Contra Costa County ban on the sale of the .50-caliber firearms outside incorporated municipalities where a Freeper commented that it would be easy to get it retracted because the cities and counties aren't allowed to make laws tougher than what the State already has passed.

So long as that remains the case, and so long as the .50s remain in use by military forces, that might make such a NY law about as good as we can hope for for a constitutional test case. If the Second Amendment is then upheld, we can continue with the work of restoring its provisions and prosecuting those enemies who've conspired to deprive others of their constitutional rights. If not, then it is not just the 2nd Amendment that is thereby moot and in abrogation, but the entire document...and there is no more authorizetion for government in America, and it'll need to be replaced.

I'll regret not getting a Barrett light 50 that was $5,000 with goodies at a downstate shop in 1995. What are they now $7,500 at least? I couldn't afford at the time. Where ya gonna fire it?

Locally we have a military range that allows owners to use it. Also some of the men I've talked to have friends who own private property that is suitable. Then we have the desert land also.
I would see if anyone has 1500 ft of open land that has a decent backstop. Make friends, offer to let them shoot it.
