Republican Party has ignored its principles

In a recent letter to the president of the United States, I informed him of my resignation from the Republican Party in Greenville. I shall continue to be involved in the local political arena, but not as a Republican.

I am sick and tired of the Republicans selling us down the river. No matter how hard I try to institute positive change, Republicans and the Republican Party ignore my pleas. For this reason I have joined the U.S. Constitution Party and urge other conservatives to do the same.

It's going to be strange for me to sit out an election, I have never missed one and have always voted Republican.

Well if nothing else, DON'T "sit out" the election just because you don't like either of the major party tickets for POTUS. There are almost always candidates for other public offices on the ballot (Senate, House and various State and Local positions) that you can vote for. And if Third Party candidates don't spark your interest, you can always participate through the American tradition of writing-in your own selection. I personally don't care for anything silly like "Mickey Mouse", but "none-of-the-above" gets your viewpoint across quite well. Of course, you can also name someone who you admire and is well known, even though they're not actually running. It doesn't really matter, but as a matter of principle, your vote is YOURS, and you can cast it for whomever you want. Or toss it away whichever way YOU see fit. But VOTE, and vote your conscience. Don't let ANYBODY badger you into voting for something or somebody you don't believe in.

"With the net result of abrogation of the crime; amnesty in fact."

My God, but you play word games and spin with the best of them.

Your convoluted logic would have me believe that abolishing the death penalty for murder, and instead replacing the mandatory punishment with life without parole, is in fact abrogating the crime.

Or that changing the sentencing guidelines for any crime in any manner which would reduce the penalty, is in fact abrogating.

You just don't like the proposed procedural changes, and now you're going to lie about it.

"For those illegals that apply, they are no longer illegal."

Those illegal aliens that apply, are fined, that's the penalty stage of the adjudication. Those who do not apply, are still here illegally. "Amnesty" would mean that all illegal aliens in the nation would have their legal status changed to legal, whether they applied or not, and without any penalty.

Nice try, but no brass ring.

Here's the bottom line, it's important to you to misrepresent what this plan is proposing by using emotionally loaded words that elicit the sort of response you want from others who are concerned about this issue, and who are easily swayed.

It's important because you want to do whatever is in your power to diminish support for Bush's re election.

If you were the least bit honest, you would state your critique of Bush's plans, not construct an obvious lie in order to misslead. The fact that you find it necessary to lie, missuse words, and apply to people's emotions in order to get your point across, makes me believe that you are in fact, a Democrat...all about "feeling", and not about logic.

You're digging yourself into a deeper hole than Saddam.

Today, I ask the Congress to join me in passing new immigration laws that reflect these principles, that meet America's economic needs, and live up to our highest ideals. (Applause.)

I propose a new temporary worker program that will match willing foreign workers with willing American employers, when no Americans can be found to fill the jobs. This program will offer legal status, as temporary workers, to the millions of undocumented men and women now employed in the United States, and to those in foreign countries who seek to participate in the program and have been offered employment here. This new system should be clear and efficient, so employers are able to find workers quickly and simply.

All who participate in the temporary worker program must have a job, or, if not living in the United States, a job offer. The legal status granted by this program will last three years and will be renewable -- but it will have an end. Participants who do not remain employed, who do not follow the rules of the program, or who break the law will not be eligible for continued participation and will be required to return to their home.

Under my proposal, employers have key responsibilities. Employers who extend job offers must first make every reasonable effort to find an American worker for the job at hand. Our government will develop a quick and simple system for employers to search for American workers. Employers must not hire undocumented aliens or temporary workers whose legal status has expired. They must report to the government the temporary workers they hire, and who leave their employ, so that we can keep track of people in the program, and better enforce immigration laws. There must be strong workplace enforcement with tough penalties for anyone, for any employer violating these laws.

Undocumented workers now here will be required to pay a one-time fee to register for the temporary worker program. Those who seek to join the program from abroad, and have complied with our immigration laws, will not have to pay any fee. All participants will be issued a temporary worker card that will allow them to travel back and forth between their home and the United States without fear of being denied re-entry into our country. (Applause.)

This program expects temporary workers to return permanently to their home countries after their period of work in the United States has expired. And there should be financial incentives for them to do so. I will work with foreign governments on a plan to give temporary workers credit, when they enter their own nation's retirement system, for the time they have worked in America. I also support making it easier for temporary workers to contribute a portion of their earnings to tax-preferred savings accounts, money they can collect as they return to their native countries. After all, in many of those countries, a small nest egg is what is necessary to start their own business, or buy some land for their family.

Some temporary workers will make the decision to pursue American citizenship. Those who make this choice will be allowed to apply in the normal way. They will not be given unfair advantage over people who have followed legal procedures from the start. I oppose amnesty, placing undocumented workers on the automatic path to citizenship. Granting amnesty encourages the violation of our laws, and perpetuates illegal immigration. America is a welcoming country, but citizenship must not be the automatic reward for violating the laws of America. (Applause.)

You mean they don't face the old consequences of their crime. You just dont like the new ones.

taxes is what happens when idealism meets reality.

And the question, as always, is how much idealism is realistic.

Those guys were heroes.

But it doesn't change the fact that Texas was part of Mexico, and the Texicans took it from them against their will.

If the millions of Mexicans in California today managed to take California from the US and annex it to Mexico, they would be heroes to Mexicans, and thiefs to Americans.

I get ticked when conservatives say this will not vote for Bush for XXXXX reason.

So when they say they won't vote for Bush, it's the same as saying they want Kerry as their Presdident.

"The weirdos I was referring to are the ones that say: I'm not voting for Bush because"

Yeah! Anyone who dares think for themselves should be ashamed! I mean, how dare conservatives get mad, just because Bush has proposed, advanced and signed into law a laundry list of liberal and socialist programs and laws? How dare people take issue with the "let's out liberal the liberals" spending that the Pubbies have undertaken, and Bush has obediently gone along with?

Why, we should all be grateful, for no other reason that we finally have a Pubbie White House and a Pubbie Congress! We should be rejoicing and drinking Bush Kool-Aid and Pubbie Punch by the gallon, just for the pure and simple fact that there are now more people in DC who have (R) behind their names than those with (D)s! Why, if those pesky conservatives would just ignore the fact that the Pubbies are driving us over the same cliff the 'Rats are, only at a slightly slower pace, then we could have four more years of unchecked government growth, and more wonderful new laws like CFR, No Child Left Behind, and even a strengthened and extended AWB! Who knows how much of the 'Rat agenda could be adopted under a second Bush administration?

Damn those pesky conservatives...why can't they just shut up, take their Soma, and accept the wonderful New World Order like good Pubbies?

One principle Bush hasn't betrayed - the move away from progressive taxation. The system is woefully inefficient, and here are my thoughts on the matter.

How is Bush moving away from progressive taxation? Are you referring to the tax cuts? Those unfortunately are temporary, and despite his calls for making them permanent, it doesn't look like it's going to happen as long as he and his party continue to be so profligate with the public treasury.

Or was there something else you were referring to?

Or that the presidency is a lost cause, at least this time around.

So you going to vote for Kerry or throw away your vote like many did for Perot and put Clinton in office?

Shortly after, you set up a Web site and spend 8 years complaining about Clinton and what a bag of pus he is.

Either you take Bush with all his fallacies, you take Kerry with all his fallacies, or you waste your vote on a so-called noble cause.

Wasted votes help Kerry.

...we have a system that depends on two parties.

That's because the system has been rigged by two parties to be that way. Third parties are also at a disadvantage because of the prevailing "they can't win" attitude of the electorate. I do plan on becoming involved with the Constitution Party after November. That won't keep me from voting for good Republican candidates, but it will keep my time and money away from a political party that is tacking ever leftward.

Most of us who are feeling disenfranchised by the Republican Party know the score, and will pull the lever for George W. Bush come November. At least, that's what I'll be doing. There's a lot to like about GWB - his "America first" foreign policy, national security, tax policy, some social issues...

Where we part ways is where he stands on domestic issues. Unilateral free-trade, CFR, illegal immigration, etc. He's not particularly strong on the 2nd amendment.

I do admire his honesty and integrity as well. Right or wrong, our President takes a stand on an issue and sticks with it.
