Hearings Won't Make Us Safe Sins of omission and the 9/11 commission.

Everyone seemed distressingly reasonable. The testifiers all offered long and understandable stories as to why they took the decisions they took, or didn't take decisions, or couldn't possibly have taken them. About halfway through Sandy Berger's testimony I remembered the words of the film director Jean Renoir: "The terrible thing about life is that everyone has his reasons."

"Peggy nails it again."

I don't think so. Peggy left out the co-president who actually ran the show.

Hillry Clinton attended these meetings and she knew everything and more than bjclinton did, yet I do not hear of her going to provide testimony before this partisan hack "commission".

trusting government to "make us safe" makes no more sense
than believing cops on the beat --or more anti-gun laws -
can make us safe--safety is NOt what someone else can --or
should have done fo rus-- it is a matter of what we are
willing to do ourself. Not the Government whose interest is
the Government NOT what it can do for the people.Nor anything but my own abilities and actions can ever make me safe.

I believe that we will have to live with the threat of terrorism until we have defeated it world wide. The reason being that we have a free society [so far], and we can move around without too many restrictions [way to many I feel!]

Can someone explain why the 9/11 Commission website is only accessible through the Families of September 11 website? It would seem to me that this is a strange co-opting of the Commission.

I concur. This administration can walk and chew gum at the same time, and is not poll-driven in matters of fighting terrorism.

Ms. Noonan is right on the mark. This "independent" commission is totally useless. Absolutely no objectivity will surface from these "joke" hearings at all! It is a waste of time. Having five Democrats and five Republicans as "objective" members doomed it from the start. And....while these morons pontificate and bicker over politics and BS, Bin Laden and company go forward with the active/real plans to destroy America and its freedom. I must admit, the American people are not too bright as they march like blind lambs to their self-inflicted slaughter. It's coming, you can bank on it! And...when the attack comes, it will make 911 look like a church picnic!

President Clinton could have rallied the nation after any one of the Pre 9/11 terror attacks.
The nation rallied to the assinine war against Serbia in support of Muslim Kosovo extremeists.
Therefore the Nation would certainly have rallied against the actual source of a terror attack.
President Clinton and his advisors chose poorly.

You got that 100% correct. Imagine Al-Quaida teaming up with some superpatriot terrorists.

Considering Al-Quaida has already teamed up with the Basque terrorists, this is not paranoia.

Whom to blame for 9/11?
I think it is a lot like when our friend's bike was stolen from her front yard. Her parents blamed HER, I blamed the *ssh*les who took her bike! In this case I blame the terrorists.
