[history]
March 25, 2004 -- DEAN Acheson famously titled his memoir of his years as secretary of state after World War II "Present at the Creation." Anyone close to Richard Clarke these last few days could write a memoir called "Present at the Self-Immolation." Rarely has a former public servant with such a sterling reputation shot it all away so quickly.

Clarke committed perjury.
A review of the facts and other testimony surrounding events means:
There is no other possibility - hang him out to dry.

I have a feeling that someone has bought off or intimidated Clarke. It is Scott Ritter all over again.
To: Enduring Freedom
Also, Clarke said -- *under oath* on Wednesday -- that ALL he said in his August 2002 press briefing was true.
Mr. Clarke's attempt to say that what he said during the August 2002 briefing *was true* but "he was emphasizing the positive", begs the question since what he said in 2002 *completely* contradicts what he asserts *now*...that Bush did little or nothing to go after Al Qaeda.
What he may have not have emphasized (implying there were negatives) in 2002 does not change the obvious...his present charges against Bush are NOT true..and he (in effect) said so under oath!

Has anyone commented on Clarke's irrational animus towards the President?
Guess the media is too busy talking up his so called republican credentials.

Has anyone checked voter registration records to see if Clarke is actually a registered Republican, as he claims to be?

Has anyone commented on Clarke's irrational animus towards the President? Guess the media is too busy talking up his so called republican credentials. I was thinking the same thing as you. Not to mention he said about us needing to understand why the terrorists hate us -- what self-respecting Republican would ever say that! He supposedly claims he voted for Bush over Gore -- well, why would a "terrorism expert" who said that Clinton made it his No. 1 issue not vote for such a person's successor? Geez, this guy is just like a freeper troll -- his claims of being Republican don't pass even a simple smell test.

Jeff Greenfield said tonite that Clarke's testimony today will do great harm to the president because he's a republican.
The spin has begun in earnest and we must not let our guard down for one moment.

"In his 2002 briefing, Clarke said that the Bush administration decided in "mid-January" 2001 to continue with existing Clinton policy..." Not to pick nits, but President Bush didn't take office until January 20th 2001 - so how was Clarke privy to the "Bush administration's" decisions in "mid-January" 2001...or was that Lowry's point?

According to Sid ... Clarke voted for McCain in the 2000 primaries
No mention of the general election
http://www.salon.com/opinion/blumenthal/2004/03/25/clarke/index_np.html (Clarke, in fact, voted for Republican Sen. John McCain for president in the Republican primaries in 2000)

(Clarke, in fact, voted for Republican Sen. John McCain for president in the Republican primaries in 2000) That explains a lot. McCain is also one that bites the hand that feeds him.

Would this be the same Jeff Greefield that had a meeting with Kerry??

Would that be the same
Jeff Greenfield (and other "upstanding reporters"/sarcasm) who met with John Kerry at Al Franken's apartment in New York to coach him to be a better candidate?
They don't even get the benefit of the doubt from me any longer. Kerry might as well hire all of them for his press secretaries including loudmouth Chris Matthews (who hates President Bush & his administration with a passion).

Well I can't tell if McCain is a Republican or Democrat so that doesn't really mean anything. Besides having Sidney Blumenthal trying to tell the the truth is about like trusting Bill Clinton with interns.

No mention of the general election According to his testimony today, he only registered as a Republican in 2000, and, as you pointed out, that was to vote for McCain. But as far as the media is concerned, he's a lifelong Republican, the way Kevin Phillips is!
