If he'd had any core values, he would have walked out the minute the subject was broached and never have another thing to do with the VVAW. In fairness to Senator Kerry, the fact that he participated in the vote doesn't mean he had no core values. It just means his core values weren't inconsistent with discussing the murder of his political opponents.
Also note that Kerry continued to represent the VVAW for at least several months after the assassination vote.
