Wendy's chili is excellent. They have it in two sizes, large and the smaller 99 cent one. When you get a Taco Salad Supreme, a small container of chili goes with it.

Of all the FF places, I like Wendy's the best.

Yeah, I've had that experience. I go to one in the area maybe twice a year, less for food than to see if it's changed. Every time it's dirty floors and poor service. Also add that perhaps 1 in 5 employees has a command of English. Glad they're sort of working though.

Perhaps they'll serve hamburgers with less gristle and bone now.

I like Burger King, but I usually just get a plain hamburger or two, some onion rings, and a Dr. Pepper

Mmmm, onion rings. That is probably the reason I would choose BK over McDonalds if they were side by side on the road.

Even though BK's onion rings aren't that good.

The best onion rings I ever ate were at Dairy Queen when I was kid in the 70's. They were real onion rings, not chopped onions, with good breading and fried to a crisp.

Geez, I never though FR would turn into a recipe club but here goes anyway . . .

Wendy’s Chili

In 1969, at the ripe old age of thirty-seven, R. David Thomas left a job at Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips to-open the first-Wendy's at 257 E. broad Street in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Only three years later Thomas began franchising the Wendy's concept, and by the end of it’s frst nine years, Wendy's International had dotted the country with more than 1,000 units. Thomas has served this chili since day one. The recipe has changed-a bit over the years, but the chili you'll taste here is a clone of Wendy's current recipe. Try topping it with freshly grated cheese and chopped onion, extras that you can request at the restaurant.

2 pounds ground beef
One 29--ounce can tomato sauce
One 29-ounce can kidney beans
(with liquid)
One 29-ounce can pinto beans.
(with liquid)
I cup diced onion (1 medium onion)
½ cup diced green chili (2 chilies)
¼ cup diced celery, (1 stalk)
3 meduirn tomatoes, chopped
2 teaspoons cumin powder
3 Tablespoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups water

1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, drain off the fat.
2. Using a fork, crumble the cooked beef into pea-size pieces.
3. In a large pot, combine the beef plus all the remaining ingredients, and bring to a simmer over low heat. Cook, stirring every 15 minutes, for 2 to 3 hours.

-Makes, about 12 servings

Wendy's does.

And a brilliant idea it was too. They also get you the food the fastest of any chain, and the burgers are always fresh. The secret is they constantly cook fresh burgers. Any that aren't sold while they are still hot and fresh are chopped up and thrown in the chili pot.

None of these huge fast food burger joints offer chili (that I know of).

Wendy's does, and it's not bad. Pretty good flavor, moderate heat. Probably wouldn't go over too big in Texas, though.

Hehehe!!! That's a GOOD one!

Works for pizza too, especially Dominos.

I don't either but it is disgusting at Burger King- I usually forget to order without mayo- since most burgers do not have it- they put so much on the burger it oozes out of the sides.

I wish fast food chains would offer cheeseburgers with swiss, cheddar, prov, or Pepper cheese- The processed american cheese is nasty and it takes like plastic.

It used to be pretty good before they changed the recipe several years ago, now it tastes kind of sugary IMO.

One time last year--one of my last visits--they were out of hamburger. Burger King out of hamburger? What are they doing?

Why didn't they do like the Eastern-food places and go grab a couple of stray cats living out of their dumpster in back?

In my area both BK & Wendy's offers chili. They make them from the old, dry burgers that were made up ahead of time and didn't sell.

If they can effectively change their advertising to market to everyone instead of primarily one sub-community, they should become more profitable.

Or substitute another sub-community. Three so far:

That's what they mean they're out of when they say they're out of hamburger.

I worked at a Wendy's. The chili meat is literally the unsold overcooked stuff that's sat around awhile, thrown in a giant pot with boiling water, and then chopped up.

Burger King is my fast food place of choice. I love their grilled chicken whoppers. I always ask for extra lettuce and tomato, and they always give it to me fresh. Their gardenburgers are great, also. The places are non-smoking, clean and well-maintained.

The chicken baguettes have failed because they only give you a few chunks of chicken. Better just to get the grilled chicken whopper, which is a healthy sandwich if you ask for "no mayo".
