Clarke's comments to Angle were given off the record or on background - Angle said he went to the WH either yesterday or today to get permission to release them today. That may explain why Mr. Clarke didn't expect his current allegations to be made null and void by his comments to Angle in 2002.

I think you're right. He AND HILLARY didn't think it would be subject to release...which means someone screwed up and heads will roll....
