VA Funding Dispute Not a Simple Matter
Washington Post ^ | March 24, 2004 | Brian Faler

Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry has accused President Bush of shortchanging the nation's veterans by cutting the Department of Veterans Affairs budget, increasing many veterans' health care costs and excluding thousands more from the system altogether.

The facts are a bit more complicated.

Kerry has repeatedly accused Bush, for example, of cutting the agency's budget. "This president is breaking faith with veterans all across the country," he said at a Democratic presidential debate in January. "They've cut the VA budget by $1.8 billion."

An amazingly fair and accurate article in the Post. I guess someone sent them factcheck.org's report!

We, at free republic, should do what drudge does.

He posts Washington post links that link to the printer version of a story.

That DOESN'T require signing in and a password.

re: He posts Washington post links that link to the printer version of a story.

Is this possible? I'd love to see it happen. I used to read the Post, but every few days the "front page" started to demand registration. I registered a couple of times, but it became such a hassle of forgotten passwords that I gave up reading the Post altogether. There are a couple of other papers that do the same thing--I keep having to reregister at the Austin American Statesman.

Do the advertisers at these internet sites know how hard the papers make it for "eyes" to get to the ads they buy? I wouldn't buy an internet ad for any paper that made it so hard for readers to get to...

I would assume that the poster has entered the password to the WASH POST site.

If the poster clicks on the printable version on the page with the story, a new page will appear with a different URL.

It is my pretention that if that new link is posted it will be accessable to all WITHOUT password.

Maybe someone who has registered with the post can do exactly this. Go to the prinatble story, copy and paste the link to a reply so we can test.

Damn, you're demanding! :)

Just register. You might learn something on there. It's not COMPLETE garbage. You don't even have to tell the truth! :)

Here you are!
