Condi Says:

1) Clark was NOT demoted;

2) Much of the Al Queda discussion was with George Tenent, NOT Clark;

3) "We just felt that even prior to 9/11 we didn't have a coordinated...tough enough strategy to eliminate Al Queda...what (Clark) gave me was a series of suggestions to roll back Al Queda within 5 years"

4) Condi says we needed more Afghan allies than just the northern alliance and "Yes, I DID tell Dick Clark I wanted a more robust strategy...we've all been briefed on Al Queda, we all new the threat, we needed a new strategy"

I think it's a good idea to keep referring to him as "Dick" Clark as it brings up a comical, and not credible, connotation to mind.

More from Condi:

1) "Now, Come on" Condi, replying to Clark's assertion she looked like she didn't know Al Queda.

2) On Joe Klien's assertion that the Clinton administration presented the Bush Administration with a plan for taking out Al Queda and that Condi ignored it: Condi says that Sandy Berger has testified publicly that they did NOT leave a plan. "What they left was a series of (5-6) ideas, including increase counter-terrorism funding...get more people working on terrorist financing in the Treasury department...accellerating the arming of the Predator drones...the one thing we didn't do (that Clark didn't get the Clinton admin to do either) was get more support to the Northern Alliance...we wanted allies in the south as well. They didn't leave a plan. Dick Clark left some ideas...we took up most of them...we were very aggressive in putting together a strategy to eliminate Al Queda."

3) On the hearing room and whether the 9/11 commission is sincerely trying to get to the bottom of what happened, scoring political points or both:

"They're trying to do their best...the meeting was respectful..I think is taking place in a highly charged political atmosphere...but think they did their best."

4) "Its really unfortunate...everybody did everything they could to try to prevent atacks against the US. THe fact is that Al Queda had been growing and getting stronger through the 90's -- in 90, 98, 2000 -- this was a cancer growing and getting stronger...we came in, we thought we needed to do more, but did what we could. Its not to question anybody's motives here...after 9/11 we were able to do some things that would have been hard to do before 9/11...the Patriot Act allowed us to break down the barriers between the FBI and the CIA..is one of the most important things to happen since 9/11."

5) On Yassin being taken out and Hamas targeting Americans - do you worry about attacks and new cooperation?

"We take every potential threat seriously, yes we worry about Hamas and terrorists on the list...bad guys tend to run together. There's a lot of sharing and fundraising in these groups...I don't know if there's evidence of Al Queda being associated with Hamas" (and they lost the connection!)

If I remember correctly, Clark skated on the payola scandal. Alan Freed was the scapegoat, I believe. I was 5 or 6 when that happened.

...American Grandstand

Yes, American Bandstand's Dick Clark.

That's the connotation to perpetuate - not to be taken seriously, simply a retired entertainer that tried to hold on to the limelight for far too long.

I am so relieved yall remember. But do speak up, slim refuses to wear his hearing aide. He swears he can hear just fine, that we are mumbling. He may be getting a little, well, slow in the memory department.
