Rendell: "(Pearce) has to be one of the dumbest SOBs in the world"

Political Insider is a tongue-in-cheek look at the past week in Arizona politics.

Some Democratic governors invaded Phoenix last weekend to chat about Medicaid reform, homeland security and budget woes.

Snoresville, right?

Not quite, thanks to Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell who puts the B in blunt. Rendell blasted state Rep. Russell Pearce after reading his quote in a story about Gov. Janet Napolitano's push for all-day kindergarten. Pearce said that "I spell early child development m-o-m, mom."

Pearce said that "I spell early child development m-o-m, mom."

He sounds like the smartest one of the bunch. Five year olds do not need to be in school all day.

Pearce said that "I spell early child development m-o-m, mom."

Careful there, Pearce. You're picking a fight with a guy who spells "family" m-o-b, mob.

"(Pearce) has to be one of the dumbest SOBs in the world," Rendell said. "Where has he been? If Mr. Pearce doesn't get the link between full-day kindergarten and economic competitiveness, I suggest we spend a few of Arizona tax dollars and send him to Japan, Korea, Germany or France, where they do understand the benefits of early childhood education."

Oh please. Full day kindegarten is an attempt at mandatory taxpayer-funded daycare. Nothing more. Nothing less.

The dumbest people are the voters in PA that put Rendell in office.

I was very proud of (Napolitano) when she wanted to name that peak after the little Indian woman," Richardson said.

That's right Richardson, let's all be be proud of Napolitano's arrogance, bullying and lawlessness as she steamrollered a review board into an illegal act by threatening the livelihood of it's volunteer chairman. She is a thug, a hack, and a political panderer

Not this voter - didn't vote for the slime. Even my sister, who is a die-hard Democrat, didn't vote for him.

But yes, you are right -unfortunately there are too many dumb voters in this state.

Of course Rendell's child was in day care from the time it was born! What does Rendell know about being a "m-o-m" or a father?

NOt to mention Napolitano. She has no children and I doubt she ever will. She has no business speaking for all moms as she flaunts her studies that all day kindergarten will equal better test scores and kids who know how to read as well as keeping kids out of trouble.

Well, Janet and Spendell, my kids learned how to read using a phonics approach prior to their 5th birthdays and I did not spend millions of dollars to do this. As a matter of fact, I believe I spent under $100-TOTAL!!

"Maybe Russell needs all-day kindergarten," Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack added.

Pearce, a Mesa conservative, said those folks are "IQ deficient."

"This is a socialist mentality," he said. "It's full-time baby-sitting. People east of the Mississippi have a problem getting good nutrition to feed the brain."

Last time I checked we (Iowa) was still west of the Mississippi!!

I know, I know, these quotes were placed together out of context, but I still got a chuck out of it.

I live in Japan and my son is now in 2nd grade. He didn't go "full day" in Kindergarten, nor even in 1st grade. Kindergarten is about 4 hours, 1st grade is 4 hours + lunch. It is assinine to send 5 year olds to school for 6+ hours. These socialists think they are so "f"ing smart.. it really gets under the skin. It's incomprehensible how they can claim to be so intelligent and at the same time say the stupidest and easily factually refutable bullwinkle.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics' examination of 22,000 kindergartners nationwide, "In terms of kindergarten program type (i.e. all day or part day), there is little meaningful difference in the level of children's end-of-year reading and mathematics knowledge."

What is the difference? "On a reading scale that ranged from 0 to 72, the average kindergartner in a full-day program gained 10.6 points over the school year. For children in half-day kindergarten programs, the average gain was 9.4 points." Final reading scores are 32.1 and 31.3. For twice the amount of time spent in school, the trade-off for many parents may not be worthwhile.
