Bulgaria Likely Terror Target - The Guardian

Politics: 21 March 2004, Sunday.

Bulgaria faces the real threat to become a terror attack target should Al-Qaeda terrorists manage to penetrate it.

According to Richard Norton-Taylor, the Guardian's security affairs editor, Bulgaria is on the list of Al-Qaeda targets but still remains outside the priorities of the terror networks.

Talking to a Bulgarian national private channel Taylor expressed the opinion that the terrorists' strikes can be prevented only accidentally as they come according to no schedule.

The opinion comes a day after British Birmingham Post-Herald reported that Ayman al-Zawahiri, Al Qaeda's second in command, travelled to Bulgaria among other countries on Islamic Jihad business and under an assumed name.

yeah right :))

Bulgaria likes to think it is the club of advanced and rich countries.

Naturally for an advanced and rich country it WILL be a target of Al-Qaida.

BUT Bulgaria is great and wonderfull but IT IS NOT an advance and rich country and being a target of Al-Qaida is just wishfull thinking :))

TELL WHAT WOULD AL-QAIDA get by striking Bulgaria??

I support the need for a country to take action to ensure its security, defend its liberty and natural resources.

No I was talking about the country. If Bulgaria supported the war then it makes Bulgaria a target since al'Queda's victory in Spain.

Yes it did and it has soldiers there. About 600 I think.

But that is irrelevant if did or not.

I hate to disagree with you and hope you are right but it makes no difference to Al Qeada the size of support it is another easy target to add to Spain.

Well the Australian Prime Minister sais Australia was a target of Al-Qaida before the Iraq war.

So it didn't make a difference whether Australia was supporting the Iraq war or not.

So was Spain.

So it was irrelevant if Australia or Spain supported the Iraq war or not they were a target as long as they are functioning western democratic countries

This explains the bombs found on the trains reported a few days back, the bomb or bombs found on the tanker trains.

from a news article somewhere:"Bulgaria was already considered a very close ally to the United States, especially in the light of the numerous media reports that the country was going to host US military bases."

Bulgaria is an applicant to the European Union.

Yes the Islamists very much want to stop Bulgaria from becoming a friend of the US, we have been talking to them about closer cooperation with the US and they have been very positive toward us...

Al Qaeda wants to send a message, "break off ties with the West or Bulgaria becomes a target for all Muslims".
