A few days ago, the esteeemed host and founder of this foremerly great website invited me to do the following:
"654. To: JohnGaltfla (#367)
Oh, it's much better to go out in a blaze of glory. Martyrdom, 72 virgins, plaque on the "Great Ones" wall of fame and all that rot.
jimrobfr posted on 2004-03-19 03:29:45 ET"
Obviously, he was concerned that some of his better non-bot posters had abandoned FR for greener fields where our financial and intellectual contributions would be appreciated. It was amusing to watch former FReepers belittle, banter and blast JimRob in various forms.
I was wrong.
FR has changed.
Deal with that fact boys and girls.
Many of us grew up in a more conservative era, where our nation and our freedoms were first and foremost. Now we learn that it that is not the case. Principles are for losers according to the Bots and most of the ignorant posters here on FR. To create noise and call those of us who have been loyal to the conservative cause such creative and wonderful names as "Soros lovers", "Mobyites", "communists"(now that's a good one for those of us who have been overseas staring at AK-47's), "DUers" and names which are forbidden for me to mention but ok for the Bushbots.
The noise has driven off many of the best posters from this site. Now FR has become the Fluff of the RNC, posting such creative threads as "Pray for President Bush - Day 1276", "The Economy (Freep this poll)", " FReeper After Actions", "After Action Freep A.N.S.W.E.R. AUSTIN TX 3/20/04", etc...
It sounds more to me like everyone is proud of responding but no one has the convictions excpet for what the RNC faxes them. This election should not be about "Republican" v. "Democrat" principles. Neither party has any principles. If you morons believe that, then you are bigger fools than I thought. This is about the future of America an the viability of capitalism in this nation.
Why "FReepers" can not see this and hold "their man" to the Hamiltonian principles of limited Federal government and enhancing our freedoms by reducing dependency on any government. By controlling immigration, restructuring the tax system to pre-1916 form, and by enhancing the defense of this nation by using actions instead of words when dealing with foreign powers (little things, like enforcing the acts against nations which do business with Cuba, as Bush promised in 2000). Unfortunately you mind numbed morons don't care. If you're 401K shows a fiat currency positive figure, you're all happy as a fly in a cow pasture.
Go for it.
As Senor Cartman would say:
"Screw you guys, I'm going home"

But by not doing so, he proved his point. Jim responded the artful way. My respect for him grew even more as a result of how he handled himself in that venue.

We don't? What do you call the smokey backroom?
Compared to the BB, I'd call the smokey backroom, "kindergarten."
The whining that goes on there is enough to make me scream.

I wish I could have slapped that poster who posted the wheel chair graphic.
My God, that was vicious.

There's never gonna be a third party takeover. The only way to make a new party is to kill off one of the two majors. I'd prefer that the target be the Democrat Party.
Once the Dems are dead, the Republican Party has some serious and immediate choices to make.

I have plenty of Libertarian and Constitutional Party friends (If my memory serves, Jim supports much of what the CP stands for). I think there is plenty in the planks of both that most here would agree on.
I've got more a problem with how some of their supporters advance their cause. Rather than explaining their positions and why they are superior to the pubs, they spend 90% of their time attacking them, then attacking anyone who remotely looks like they support the GOP. IMHO, it is not a strategy for winning anyones heart or mind.

It doesn't get any better than this.

Neil McIver and Goldy (?). As far as using FR, they should just say FR, although I doubt Jim would have case if he objected to them using Free Republic as a section for comments about the website.

FReepers, correct me if I'm wrong. I seem to recall lots of threads and posts critical of Bush's domestic policies. I've thrown my share of stones at his agenda on the domestic side. And his failure to address the illegal immigrant issue is frequent fodder for criticism here.
What gives?

I figured Jim was in good company with POTUS as Hitler.
The wheelchair graphic outraged me the most.
It was vicious, cruel and cowardly.
It may surprise you to learn that Todd thought so too.

French surrender monkeys? Some French people live in America because they don't feel like living in that socialist hellhole. Your signature insults them (me) too.
To: sauropod
BTW - It's easy for some of these people to throw barbs while sitting on a comfortable pedestal. If the LP or CP were ever to capture enough Congressional seats or the White House, I beleive they would end up looking like the GOP...compromising and making deals to get some of their agenda passed (with an eye on re-election).
That's the way politics works. Sitting in the bleachers watching a poker game while criticizing each players moves is easy. It's a whole different perspective when you're at the table and it's your money in front of you.

Yeah, we're not all "bots", whatever the hell that means (I just know it's not good). I doubt that anyone here agrees with Bush on 100% of the issues. I, for example, have some problems with his trade and immigration policies. If you want to see what real follow-the-leader idiocy is, you might want to check out DU. Their man Kerry is a waffling opportunist, and the few DUers who call him on it get banned. Free Republic as far as I know is a CONSERVATIVE board that isn't afraid to call on our party's leader when he does something wrong.
To: Bob J
Exactly right.
It's very easy to wax eloquent and lofty (prinicpled) when you know you're not going to win.
Alan Keyes comes to mind.
Not that I think Keyes didn't mean what he said.
It was just easy for him to state his position and criticize Bush for trying to win the election by reaching out to the squishy middle.

That's true. You have to reach out to the center when running for office seriously.
For the record, I actually voted for Keyes :)
