A quick aside: On one of my visits to the construction site of the WWII memorial on the Washington Mall, I overheard four American adults, in their late 40s, well-dressed and groomed, talking about how they couldn't remember "who was on who's side" in the war.
They couldn't decide if Germany was allied with the US in WWI, and they weren't sure if France was on our side in WWII. And they had no idea when the wars took place.
