Milwaukee Support the Troops/Bush, Counter the Left AFTER ACTION FREEP REPORT.

On a beautiful, breezy, sunshiny afternoon, with temperatures approaching 60, a small, but very vocal and determined group of about 25 showed up today at Milwaukees lakefront. Our mission: to counter the anti-American, anti-war, pro-socialist libs, a group whose makeup consisted in large part of the teachers union (large banner displayed support increases in teacher pay) and teenagers!
Having had months to plan this event, I was surprised at the relatively small number (Im guessing 150-200) in attendance at the Peace rally.
Unfortunately, our numbers were held down because of hundreds of pro-troops, pro-Bush supporters that had previously committed to a massive lit drop for County Exec. Scott Walker. But, since Walker is one of the best things to happen to Milwaukee County in a long time, and whose reelection is essential, well let em slide this time! LOL
Our FReep began at Cathedral Square with a motivational speech by LouD and exerpts (read by yours truly) from the speech V.P. Dick Cheney delivered this past Wednesday at the Reagan Library. (BTW, if youd like to read the entire speech, which is nothing short of brilliant, you can find it at V.P.Dick Cheney Speech
We then took to the streets with chants of Support our troops, support President Bush, U.S.A., etc. as we made our way toward the lakefront and the eventual confrontation with the left. Modesty aside here, WE ROCKED! Our small group with LouD manning the megaphone (maybe that should be LOUD) was easily as vocal and loud as the group 10 times our size.
Of course one clown (Mr. Divas characterization) from the whacky left breached the street separating the two groups trying to provoke a confrontation. Our resolve to maintain a peaceful, yet effective demonstration, did not waiver. Clown boy was eventually confronted by some of Milwaukee finest (who seemed to be glad we were there) and returned to the circus from which he came!
After about a half hour of getting our message across, we took to the streets again, continued up Wisconsin Avenue listening to patriotic music and chanting support our troops, returned to Cathedral Square where the group eventually disbanded.
Thanks to LouD, reaganrenegade, Faraday, Knute, rj45mis and the crow's mom for your help (hope I didn't miss anyone.) Pleasure seeing you again or meeting you for the first time
hope it wont be the last.
All in all, I'd say, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Given the number that expressed an interest in this rally, but weren't able to attend due to the lit drop, or other previous commitments, it seems inevitable another rally will be planned within the next few months. Stay tuned!

No, unfortunately. But the local media seems to be giving us almost as much attention on the tv news coverage. I have posted some pics from one of last year's rallies on my "About" page. Hopefully, we'll have something approaching that scale yet this year.

My home made sign read (on one side): OUR TROOPS LIBERATED 40 MILLION; (on the other side) Americans for IRAQI FREEDOM. Of course, it had a FreeRepublic.com on it. A reporterette from the Urinal took a picture of it. Will have to see if turns up tomorrow. My wife tells me we made the WTMJ-TV local news.

All I can add to Diva's descriptive and accurate report is a mention of a fine chili lunch at a restaurant across from our gathering place.
Near the end of the meal one member of our table who will remain unnamed looked up and said, "What stinks?"
A ragtag group of teenage peaceniks had just entered the building, still carrying some of their paraphernalia. They largely behaved themselves and it was not necessary to teach them manners (this time)
